Detroit MI Auto Show Draws 21,000 More Attendees than a Year Ago
DETROIT, M.I. – Detroit MI Cobo Center attendance of the North American International Auto Show was up from 714,000 in 2010 to 735,000 in 2011, and on Friday the attendance broke a 1993 attendance record.
"The NAIAS is always about exceeding expectation but Friday's figure for 2011 exceeded our own," said Barron Meade, 2011 NAIAS Chairman, in a press release. "Breaking a long-standing attendance record after a couple of weeks of glowing global headlines, a successful Charity Preview that surpassed our goals, and 55 new products revealed counts as a pretty amazing set of accomplishments for NAIAS, its fans, its exhibitors and our automotive industry."

Interest from the public in the Detroit MI auto show is clearly on the rise, as evident in the final totals from the NAIAS, but whether that will translate into actual sales for the Big Three is still unknown.
The Detroit MI automakers certainly seem to be getting more positive attention in the press, with the Detroit News' Neil Winton putting the "Cadillac CTS-V up there with the Porsches, BMWs and Mercedes." Mark Phelan questioned whether Michigan has what it takes to become the "world's center for electric-vehicle expertise," noting Ford's unveiling of an electric-vehicle family and GM's Chevy Volt.
Though it's difficult to forecast the exact outcome for Detroit MI is unpredictable, the outlook seems much more promising than the uncertainty felt three years ago.
