How to make sure you get a good deal on used cars

Posted: Dec 09, 2009 |Comments: 0 |

Buying new cars can be expensive and so a lot of people opt for second hand or used cars, this doesn’t mean we’re getting anything less as a lot of people own cars for only a few years and considering they are built to last much longer than this brief period of time you could make significant savings by purchasing a used car instead.

The rules when buying anything that is used or second hand still apply though, whether you are buying the car from a dealership or an independent seller you need to be sure of the condition of the car and preferably test it before purchasing to know that the car is in good condition and worth buying.

Before buying any used car you need to do your homework and research what kind of car you need. There are things you need to consider such as whether you need features such as power steering and whether you want to drive an automatic or a manual transmission. If you have a family then you will probably need a larger car or at very least a car with four doors to get all members of the family in.

Once you’ve settled on the type of car you want you should begin looking at makes and models, by doing a bit of research online you can find reviews and message boards on particular brands and models, if there are cars that are expensive to repair or have a history of breaking down and other problems then you’ll see this online and know which models to avoid.

When you’ve found the exact model and make of car you want to buy then you can start looking at the car adverts in papers, online and at your local used car showroom. This is often where you need to tread carefully and make sure you are dealing with a reputable car salesperson. You should be looking closely at the vehicle you want to buy for any problems or telltale signs that the car is no good. If you go to a quality used car showroom then they will have likely ran a number of tests and quality processes to make sure that you are getting a used car that is in perfect running condition and made a significant saving compared to buying a new car.

If you are looking for used cars or even used vans online there are reputable dealers who are able to not only offer a quality car but a warranty to protect you in case of any issues.
