Hybrids? What are those?

Posted: Oct 08, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

"Hybrids are the cars of the future", some people might say. "Hybrids are a waste of money", is what everyone else says. Each person has a different opinion, right? Most people base their opinions over how much they know about a certain topic. So to expand your opinion, here are some facts that you may or may not know about these energy-efficient cars:

-Hybrids, usually, are cars that have more than one source of energy.
-The Toyota Prius Rims from 2001-2003 only come in Machined.
-There are 2 types of Hybrids: A parallel hybrid & a series hybrid.
Parallel Hybrid: Contains both an electric motor & gasoline engine that work in unison to make the car take you to where you want to get in life.
Series Hybrid: The gasoline engine can either power the electric motor that then gives power to the whole vehicle or it can charge the batteries that will give the motor the power that it needs to run.
-For those of you that really cannot stand seeing these cars everywhere you go, you'll be glad to know that the production might stop in 2012! (You're probably like "Thank God", huh?) The Dysprosium & Neodynium-which are the components of these cars-are in really short supply; which means that the production of these cars might come to an end very soon.
-The USEPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency.. I think) registered the 2008 Toyota Prius as the "Most Fuel Efficient Car sold in the United States".
-Supposedly, Boeing will re-invent their 737NG plane & turn it into a hybrid.
-I bet you didn't know that when the hybrid car is stuck in traffic, the engine automatically shuts off; but then re-starts automatically when the car is put back into gear. Or maybe you did, but either way, now you know.
-Dr. Ferdinand Porsche was technically the first man to make a hybrid car in 1902.
-Of course you know that it has fancy advanced aerodynamics that reduce the drag of the car.
-Since it runs on a newer technology, not all mechanics are licensed-or trained-to fix the glitches that the car may have. Even if you were lucky & found a mechanic to repair it, you can pretty much bet that it's not going to be cheap.
-Toyota was the first manufacturer & distributor to make & sell the hybrid of a new generation in the US by the year 2000. They released it in Japan 3 years prior.
-The Honda Insight was released as a Hybrid in 2001.
-It may or may not start in the morning. Totally random, but very true.

These are only some facts that may or may not catch your attention. Hybrids can either come in small cars, SUV's, or even trucks. It all boils down to how much you are willing to pay for a car & how committed you are to making this world a better place; or that's what I think anyway.
