Indianapolis 500 Tickets – 2010 Could be Danica Patrick's Year at the Indy 500

Danica Patrick is already the best female driver to ever compete in the Indianapolis 500, but this year she could break even more records, becoming the first-ever female driver to win the prestigious Indy 500. Patrick has had many memorable moments at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and this May she will attempt to break barriers on her way to IndyCar domination.

The 28-year-old Andretti Autosports driver has her eyes focused on the checkered flag in Indianapolis as April rolls around and May comes into plain view, and a Memorial Day weekend romp at the IMS will prove whether or not Danica Patrick can start the decade off well in open-wheel racing at the famed Indy 500. The biggest race of the year for IRL drivers, the Indianapolis 500 is billed as the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing," with IndyCar drivers pining for a win at the sacred Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Going into the 2010 season, Danica Patrick spoke of her high hopes for both her NASCAR and IndyCar seasons, telling the Associated Press, "I think this season will be very competitive. I'm still looking for a series championship and of course, a win [at the Indy 500] is the ultimate goal. Obviously I want to do well in both series, but for now IndyCar is the focus."

Patrick is no stranger to the driver's seat in Indy, as the IRL princess has historically fared very well at the oval racetrack. During her rookie season in 2005, No. 7 sparked "Danica Mania" from the grandstands in Indianapolis when she became the first female driver to ever lead the Indianapolis 500. Though it was only for a short time, the flavor of Indy success has never tasted so sweet.

Last year, Danica Patrick again flirted with success at Indianapolis, notching her best finish ever at No. 3 (behind Helio Castroneves and Dan Wheldon) and coming in as the first Andretti Green Racing driver to finish. Patrick's legacy in the IRL goes much further than her sex appeal (refer all questions to the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issues of 2008 and 2009), and racing fans better believe she'll be a top seller of Indianapolis 500 tickets this year as she goes for the gold.

So far this season, Patrick's foray into NASCAR has yielded only lukewarm results. Her time in the saddle with the IRL has by far been more fruitful, and so far after the first two races of the 2010 IndyCar season, she sits in 10th place overall in driver standings, behind (in descending order) Will Power, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Dario Franchitti, Justin Wilson, Raphael Matos, Helio Castroneves, Ryan Briscoe, Vitor Meira and Dan Wheldon.

During the first race of the 2010 IndyCar Series season on March 14 at Sao Paolo, Patrick placed 15th, coming back for the next race on March 29 at St. Petersburg and notching a seventh place finish. She'll have races at Birmingham (April 11), Long Beach (April 18) and Kansas City (May 1) to adjust to her open-wheel car before the Indy 500 comes into play, and racing fans around the country are anxiously awaiting the arrival of Danica Patrick at the 2010 Indianapolis 500, where she'll compete with motorsports' best drivers for the title of Indy 500 champion.
