Kerb Removal

If new information from university researchers to be believed, removing kerbs could make drivers safer.  Newcastle University had been committed to studying how drivers mind worked when it came to hazards and dangers on the roads, and found that thrill seekers are more commonly found speeding on smaller and more residential roads than on the larger motorways. This is because mentally they did not find the highways taxing enough, preferring the excitement in the risks of driving on a slower road.

According to researchers, driving with hazards increases our perception as it adds danger to a driver's vision. They feel that by putting hazards like pedestrians in to the equation, it may make Car Insurance customers in the UK drive a whole lot safer

AA president Edmund King, who is also Visiting Professor of Transport at Newcastle University, said: 'As cars come fitted with more gadgets to make driving easier and planners remove more of the distractions it comes as no surprise to me that some people are finding the pleasure of driving has become a bore.

'With that comes an increase in the risks drivers take as they mentally switch-off instead of focusing on the road. Drivers need to stay alert at all times.'

it comes as a bit of a worry, as when speed limits were lowered in the Uks towns, the death rate of pedestrians rose, and the plan was scrapped. By removing kerbs, this may have the same impact on pedestrians, putting us in dangerous situations.
