New Sight Test Regulations for Driving

Posted: Feb 28, 2011 |Comments: 0 |

The driving test has been changed and adapted through the years, but critics say that it has yet again become easier as the requirement for the distance a potential driver is asked to read a number plate from has been reduced, due to call s from EU regulators. This is to be a little fairer on people with medical conditions like diabetes and epilepsy, which might make it more difficult for them at this point under the current rules. The idea is that as number plates have decreased in size, the sight distance remained the same, and the changes need to be made to reflect this and allow more people to be able to drive not only cars, but Lorries and busses on Britain's roads.

A motorist will now have to read the car number plate from a distance of seventeen point five metres, as opposed to the old distance of twenty metres.

When the driving test was first introduced into the UK it was a whole fifteen feet longer, meaning that drivers who passed their tests had impeccable eyesight and therefore were safer at spotting hazards on the roads. Car Insurance companies would have preferred this as it would have saved on accidents and brought down Car Insurance Premiums for all!

Drivers who wear glasses will be able to wear them during their test, asunder the current rules they cannot, but the new rules will affect drivers who have to sign a self declaration when they reach the age of seventy, to say that they are still fully capable of operating their car.
