As you may be aware, the state of the planet and issues of global warming have been a particularly hot topic in the news of late. The Government would like us to recycle everything from potato peelings to car tyres and reduce greenhouse emissions by turning off the fairy lights at night and cycling to work in the morning. Whether you are an eco-warrior or not, the science behind the scaremongering is gaining credibility and taking hold of the consciousness of the nation; the reality is slowly dawning that the issue of global warming is very real and we should all be doing our bit to combat the rise in carbon dioxide levels.
One of the major culprits is the combustion of fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal. The burning of these fuels releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere; this causes the atmosphere to warm by trapping heat radiated by the earth's surface. Using energy that is not renewable for heating the home and in manufacturing is generally out of the average person's control, but there is a way that we can reduce our consumption of non renewable energy by addressing our transportation needs.
Owning a car often means that we use it for convenience. We make trips to the shop when we could have walked; we do a school run because it is raining; we drive to work because the bus stop isn't outside the front door. If we were to get rid of our vehicles, we would find that it makes little difference to our lives as far as these convenience trips are concerned. It is the major journeys that justify the use of a car; weekend breaks to visit friends, day trips to theme parks and the occasional days where there is a family engagement in a different part of the country.
Public transport is one answer, but often these trips require taking the whole family, luggage, the dog and the kitchen sink. Not easy to negotiate on a train on a Friday evening! The answer here could be vehicle rental. If you are an occasional car user, then personal car hire could be a more affordable and more practical method of transportation as well as being good for the planet. There are lots of hire companies to choose from and they do all inclusive deals for hire terms and insurance cover.
The major benefits are that you will only hire a car when it is necessary; and with rental packages from twenty four hours for daytrips to ones that are long term for contract work for example, there is plenty of leeway when it comes to choice. From a practical point of view, opting to for a personal car hire vehicle means saying goodbye to having to pay for and sort out road tax, insurance, MOT and servicing. The major bonus is that you can choose a car that you would not ordinarily be able to afford to buy, drive or insure.
It is possible to hire any vehicle from a Ford to a Ferrari. You could even hire a vehicle according to the importance of the engagement at hand. For a weekend away in the countryside with the whole family, hire a four wheel drive diesel estate; or if you are planning an important business meeting with a client you'd like to impress, go for renting a Porche 911 for the day. For the more environmentally conscious of you car drivers out there, there is the option to only hire hybrid vehicles, once again a cheaper option that trying to buy one that has just come on the market. We can all do our bit to reduce the impact of a twenty first century lifestyle on the environment; choosing to ditch the rusting motor and chip in to a hire scheme will soon be second nature just like recycling the local newspaper.
