Preparing for Your Teen Getting a Driver’s License

For most teenagers, getting their driver’s license is akin to a rite of passage. Most of the time, they dream of getting their own set of wheels complete with customized car floor mats, seat covers and all. Indeed, what better way of enjoying perhaps the most exciting part of their lives than being enthroned in comfortable car seat covers, cruising through scenic spots with friends and relatives? For teenagers, getting the most of life means having the means to go about freely; a car with Hawaiian car seat covers parked on an idyllic beach is a perfect picture of this.

Having mobility and the opportunity to assert your independence and individuality --- made possible by the countless ways of customizing myriad aspects of the vehicle like its car floor mats and car seat covers --- is something teenagers crave for.

Certainly, teenagers have to start driving at some point, and most of the time it is better to start them young. Teenagers and young adults must be taught the principles of responsible driving before they get their driver’s license. Hawaiian seat covers in a sleek sports car mean nothing if the owner of the car drives willy-nilly. It is important to display responsibility and competence when driving a car.

It is advised to enroll in a driving class which will involve many hours of training and learning behind the wheel. Skills such as mental alertness, eye-hand coordination, and the likes are oftentimes further honed in classes that focus on the basics of behind the wheel.  Driving schools offer programs that prepare and equip teenagers and adults with basic and advanced driving skills. A typical driving school offers the modules that deal with driving responsibilities; effects of natural forces on vehicles; the meaning of signals, signs, and road markings; vehicle systems; accidents and their causes and how to prevent them; and the effects of drugs and alcohol. The best part of it perhaps, is hands-on training where students can take their turn behind the wheel and demonstrate all that the classroom has taught them.

While preparing for a driver’s assessment test, it is wise that a teenager or a young adult have a good understanding of the following:

•    Wearing a seatbelt at all times
•    Knowledge on the meanings of different road signs
•    Respect for pedestrians
•    An emergency plan should accidents occur while driving, such as giving First Aid or calling the proper authorities
•    Maintaining a positive attitude while driving and not succumbing to road rage

When these things are already ingrained in the mind of a young driver, passing the licensing tests should be a breeze and all those thoughts of driving in a car on one’s own should shortly become a reality. It is important to note that requirements for a driver’s license vary from state to state. Some may have strict regulations while others may have more lenient policies.

Needless to say, there are still some things to keep in mind before getting a driver’s license. The following items are all in the need-to-do list to get a driver’s license:

•    Prepare all the required identifications (IDs, birth certificates, etc)
•    Have necessary pre-assessment tests certifications on hand (vision examinations, medical reports, etc)
•    Study the handbook provided by the licensing authorities
•    Check the breaks, lights, and oil etc. of the vehicle
•    Have the vehicle and its interiors (e.g. car floor mats, dashboard, floor, and car seat covers) cleaned

A teenager must understand that an exam for a driver’s license or permit is two-part --- written and field. It’s important to be prepared for both.  A reputable driving school should help ease the anxiety a young teen may feel while taking either one of the exams.  You can rest assured, that you are well prepared for any aspect of the written or field test.

Once the license is obtained, taking up an on-road safety class is also very helpful. Teens and young drivers will be taught how to handle difficult situations like parking on a hill, checking blind spots, handling road rage, avoiding hydroplaning, etc. Sadly, in some states and countries, driving tests held by government authorities are not adequate to equip new drivers with the necessary skills needed to be a safe driver.

A new driver is also encouraged to learn basic car maintenance skills like changing a tire, changing air filters, changing spark plugs, changing oil and other easy tasks that could save money versus taking the car into a repair shop. Perhaps in due time such savings would allow one to afford those latest car seat covers to personalize his car with.
