Rebuilding or Replacing Your Automotive Transmission in Tampa

If you experience strange responses when handling your car, or if it makes strange noises, you should waste no time in bringing it in to an auto service mechanic for a diagnostic check up. Be prepared for any necessary car repair, hopefully inexpensive and not taking too much of your time. If the mechanic does not find engine trouble or faulty brakes, you might have a problem with your automotive transmission. This can be very expensive anywhere, even here in Tampa. It will surely not cost the same as an auto AC repair, for example. Do not hesitate about having it done, though, and do not attempt to use your car without the necessary repair.

You are faced with three options if your automotive transmission is shot. First, you can get a new car. This is the most expensive option even if you can sell your old car. After all, you will be selling a car that is not in good running condition. Your remaining two options have to do with either replacing or rebuilding your automotive transmission. You can replace it with a brand new transmission. This is cheaper than buying a new car but still be prepared to spend two to three thousand dollars, depending on the make of your vehicle. Alternatively, you can replace it with a remanufactured transmission or a used transmission. These are available in Tampa.

There is a big difference between a remanufactured transmission and a used transmission, and that means not just in price points. A used transmission is not very reliable. It may be running but you do not know how badly it has been used before. It may also have hidden defects that will not be immediately apparent. Some unscrupulous Tampa suppliers may insist that their guarantee is enough assurance but even with a guaranteed replacement, you will still lose money in labor and precious wasted time if the used transmission turns out to be a dud.

If replacement is your choice, make sure you get a remanufactured transmission. This is also a used transmission but it has gone through a thorough professional check up and all the parts that need replacement have been replaced. Go to a highly reputable source that observes the highest remanufacturing standards and offers a warranty on parts and labor that extends beyond just one year. Also make sure that you have your remanufactured transmission installed by a professional mechanic in Tampa who is highly experienced in such a task.

The third option is to have your transmission rebuilt. This is recommended if you had acquired your car brand new and it still carries the original transmission. It is also recommended if that transmission has undergone extensive and expensive customization that should not be easily put to waste. Rebuilding such transmission systems means overhauling them in an automotive shop in Tampa.

The only drawback to rebuilding your transmission is that it will take up to three to four days. Transmission replacement, on the other hand, can be accomplished within a day. Rebuilding takes longer because the whole transmission system is removed from the car while the vehicle is on a lift. The transmission is then totally disassembled. The torque converter, seals, gaskets, clutches, bands and all other parts with friction surfaces are automatically replaced. The other parts are thoroughly inspected and, if found to be damaged, are replaced, as well. Parts to be retained are cleaned meticulously. If the original manufacturer has upgraded the same transmission model, your auto service shop in Tampa should have the necessary upgrade kit to incorporate such upgrades.

Be informed so that you can make the right choice in rebuilding or replacing your automotive transmission in Tampa.
