Riders to Add Onto Vehicle Insurance That Save Money

Drivers are always looking for ways to save on their vehicle insurance. Driving less, trading in for more low-profile cars, and getting higher deductibles are just a few well-known ways to save on vehicle insurance. But have you considered saving money by adding on riders?

If you are looking to save money on your auto insurance policy without adding riders, then you can compare car insurance quotes to find a better rate.

A rider is an amendment to your vehicle insurance policy. This serves is additional benefits and “supplemental coverage” or a way to adjust your policy by deleting coverage. You can add as many riders as you want. It’s great for protection and for saving money on vehicle insurance! There are just some incidents that you don’t want to pay out of pocket for and you’ll need extra vehicle insurance. However, sometimes a rider can only be used once and is terminated after you draw a claim on it.

Here are four riders we advise you to add on to your vehicle insurance policy.

1. Towing/Repair Rider—This is definitely one rider you want to add on to your vehicle insurance policy. This rider covers your personal expense if you find yourself needing roadside assistance, which can get expensive.

2. Rental Reimbursement Rider—Having this rider on your vehicle insurance means your carrier will foot the bill for a rental car in case your car is stolen or damaged.

3. Umbrella Rider—This is a gap vehicle insurance rider. Let’s say your car is totaled in an accident. This umbrella rider will pay the difference between what you owe on your car loan and your totaled car’s actual cash value.

4. Custom Rider—Most of the time, regularly vehicle insurance policies don’t cover special furnishings in your car (e.g. paint, murals, special stereo systems and sound equipment, etc.), even if they are factory installed. Talk to a car insurance agent to get a custom rider on your vehicle insurance policy that will reimburse you for your customized furnishings in case of theft. Also, in some cases, coverage for sound equipment is an additional rider.

By: Eraj | 20/08/2009 | Cars
The auto insurance quotes you’ve been hearing from agents are probably higher than you expected. That’s because there are more uninsured drivers on the road, causing auto insurance quotes and rates to rise higher and higher. It’s a nasty cycle: The more drivers drop their auto insurance, the higher auto insurance quotes and rates rise.
