Top 10 Car Launches of 2011

The year 2011 had the launches of new and interesting cars to suit all tastes and budgets. 2011 has seen a surge in popularity for many cars. 2011 was an eventful and competitive year for the automobile industry, with the launch of some pathbreakers. The top 10 launches of 2011 are as follows

Maruti Swift: With the launch of Swift hatchback, Maruti marked its debut in the premium hatchback segment. Maruti Swift has clocked around 50,000 pre-launch bookings. The new Swift is powered by the same 1.2 litre K-series petrol engine It is further tweaked with the VVT (Variable Valve Timing) technology due to which there is increased power delivery of 88.14 bhp @ 6000 rpm and torque of 114 Nm @ 4000 rpm. The 1.3 litre DDiS diesel motor remains unchanged.

Hyundai Eon: Hyundai has come up with Eon, its eighth car and fourth hatchback in India. It was earlier known as Hyundai HA and Hyundai 800 in car market. Hyundai EON is blowing trumpet left, right and centre with this three letter name which actually means ‘long period of time'. According to Hyundai ‘India is ON' now with the advent of this bug-eyed hatchback. The mileage is 21.1 kmpl. It is powered by 814cc engine. The mighty petrol engine is packed in all 6 variants released and manages to deliver maximum power of 56 bhp at 5,500 rpm which is quite enough to power a small hatch. Hyundai EON inherits its looks from Hyundai i10 but it is relatively smaller.

Tata Indica Vista: Tata Motor introduced its New Tata Indica Vista which is powered by four engine options a 1.3L, Quadrajet diesel engine producing 75.9 bhp at 4000 rpm and 135.4 Nm of peak torque at 2500 rpm and a 1.2L, Safire90 MPFI VVT petrol engine yielding 91.1 bhp of top power at 6000 rpm and 116 Nm of exceptional torque at 4750 rpm. The exteriors are well drawn. The interior is spacious. The safety features include ABS (with EBD), dual front airbags, front ELR seat belts, child safety locks, central locking, remote controlled keyless entry, high mount stop lamp, engine immobilizer (Safire and Quadrajet engine), warning for driver door open with key ON, warning for fastened and collapsible steering.

Honda Brio: Honda unveiled Brio which is a perfect package for a new era. It is a fuel-efficient and spaciousness car. The exterior comprises of a ‘Double Triangle' design, conveying vibrant energy from nose to tail, and a sleek look. Brio has an impressive interior. The Brio is powered by a four cylinder 1.2-litre i-VTEC engine that churns out 89.1 bhp @ 6000 rpm and Torque of 109 Nm (11.2 kg-m) @ 4600 rpm, while giving an excellent fuel economy of 18.4 km/l. The safety features include dual SRS front airbags, Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and front pretensioner seat belts.

Beat Diesel: Chevrolet came up with its Beat diesel variant which had an absolutely refreshing sense of style through its unconventional, but bold design. The fuel efficiency is 24kmpl. It is powered by a smaller capacity 936cc, 3-cylinder engine. The Chevrolet Beat Diesel is available in four variants, priced between 4.29 - 5.45 lacs (ex-showroom Delhi)

Nissan Sunny: Nissan came up with Sunny, premium sedan for India. The exterior is well-sculpted with Nissan's signature grille and jewel-like headlamps, with the roof inclined elegantly to the rear, giving it the appeal of a coupe. The interior is spacious. It is powered by 1.5 litre petrol engine which churns out 98 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 134 Nm of torque at 4000rpm.

Tata Aria 4X2: Pushing their way into the Top 10 is the Tata Aria 4x2. is not just another makeover. It extends the range to new segments and redefines several benchmarks by slashing prices by a whopping Rs. 1.3 lacs. The exterior comprises of the angular, wrap-around dual-barrel headlamp with projector beam and the signature Tata grille. The incredibly spacious cabin has three-row seats. The safety features include ABS , EBD and all disc brakes aid steerability and control in emergency braking. It is powered by 2.2 litre Direct Injection Common Rail (DICOR) engine.

Etios and Liva Diesel: 2011 was a remarkable year for Toyota in India. After the success of the Etios and the Etios Liva, Toyota came up with the diesel variants of Etios and Etios Liva. The twins are powered by the 1.4 litre diesel engine that also powers the Corolla Altis diesel. The interior has good rear seat space, large boot and is airy. The exterior comprises of distinctive front grille, sculpted surface and dynamic character-line in the front and rear. The roof has a unique design for better aerodynamics and clean appearance. The safety features include energy absorbing body shell, driver and passenger air bags and ABS with EBD.

Hyundai Fluidic Verna: Tumbling out of the Top 10 launches, is the new Hyundai Verna 2011 sedan car inspired by the Hyundai's Fluidic sculpture philosophy with aerodynamic exteriors. It is available in New Verna Diesel CRDi VGT as well as Verna Petrol 2011 VTVT versions . It is powered by 1.4 litre petrol engine which churns out 108.4 bhp and powered by 1.6 litre diesel engine which churns out 124.6 bhp. It has options of automatic transmission for both diesel and Petrol engine with 4-speed gearbox .The exterior of the new Verna includes hexagonal grille at the front, eagle eye headlamps and the stylish ‘L' shaped front fog lamps . The rear end of the car is fitted with dual chrome tipped exhaust.

Mahindra XUV 500

The premium Mahindra XUV500 was launched on 29th September 2011. The Mahindra XUV 500 came as a surprise to Indian car enthusiasts. The XUV500 is priced at Rs 10.80 lacs. The XUV500 is powered by a 2.2-litre M-Hawk engine that churns out 140bhp and a whopping 330Nm of torque. The XUV 500's interior includes instrument panel, elegant leather wrapped dashboard, cool box, voice-command activated centre console, lounge lighting for different mood, full touch integrated audio system. The safety features include hill-descent control, airbags, ABS, ESP and blower controls for the third row. It has an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 15.1 kpl, which makes it the second most fuel-efficient vehicle in Mahindra's passenger SUV list after the Bolero.
