Top 7 Factors Causing Premature Tyre Damage

Car tyres should always be taken good care of. They should regularly be checked for wear and tear so that if required they can be replaced immediately. If wear and tear is not rectified at an early stage, it may cause complete deterioration of the tyres and lead to an accident.

Here are top 7 factors causing premature tyre damage:

Position of Tyres

Front tyres wear faster than the tyres at the rear of the car. This is because most of the pressure is laid on the front tyres. Front tyres have to actually be pushed on road against all shocks and bumps to drive the car. To avoid this kind of tyre damage, it is advisable to do tyre rotation that leads to even wear and tear on all the four car tyres or wheels.

Weight of Car

Weight of the car including the kerb weight, passenger weight, and the cargo weight puts more pressure on the car tyres to make the car run. If the car is overloaded, it will definitely cause early tyre damage. In the Indian car market there are cars like Honda City and the new car Fiat Linea that have huge boot capacity for extra storage. This does not give permission to load the car with excessive cargo. Car manufacturers give massive space in the trunk for easy and comfortable storage and not for overloading. Even the number of passengers in the car should be in accordance to the specified seating capacity of the car.

Tyre Pressure

If the car tyres are not properly inflated they cause premature damage. Both under-inflation and over-inflation negatively impact the performance of the tyres. If the tyres have lower pressure than recommended then side walls of the tyre flex more and create heat build-up that cause tyre wear. If in case there is higher pressure then it decreases the contact area between the road and the tyres causing the tyres to loose grip.

Tyre Imbalance

If the car tyres are imbalanced they vibrate at certain speeds. This vibrations leads to premature tyre damage. Therefore, tyre balancing should be done at regular intervals of time.

Wheel Alignment

Incorrect car tyre alignment also leads to uneven and increased wear. All the four wheels of the car tyres should be correctly aligned. Unaligned wheels cause steering problems premature tyre wear. So, it is very essential to get you car's wheel aligned at regular intervals to ensure that the wheels travel in accordance to the geometric centreline of the car.

Tyre Rotation

Tyre rotation is the interchanging of front and rear tyres. The front tyres wear faster and therefore if rotation is not done then the tyres will loose balance and road traction will be reduced.

Excessive Speeding

Excessive speeding is one of the key factor contributing to early tyre damage. When the car is driven at a speed above the specified speed rating on the tyre, it causes overheating of the tyre that eventually leads to wear and tear of the tyres.
