In today's environment friendly world few things make more of an impact on the environment than the pollution caused by motor vehicles. Some solutions to the growing problem are car pooling, and public transportation, but that's not always a possibility for some people. This especially holds true to those who do a lot of traveling for their jobs. Fortunately, recent advances in technology have created some incredibly fuel-efficient vehicles. Listed below is a description of the top three most fuel efficient cars.

3) The Nissan Altima Hybrid: With its 2.5 liter engine and automatic transmission, the Altima gets 33 miles to the gallon in the city and 35 miles to the gallon on the highway, making it an excellent choice for anyone who wants to save on gas prices. An estimated annual fuel cost of the Hybrid comes to around $1,765 which, compared to most other cars, is quite good.

2)The Honda Civic Hybrid: This model has a smaller engine than the Altima at only 1.3 liters, but it makes up for that with its incredible mileage. It gets 40 miles to the gallon in the city and 45 miles to the gallon on the highway. While it is a bit pricier than other hybrid cars, it does compare favorably in price with its intended target, the Toyota Prius. Estimated annual fuel costs for the Civic come to around $1,429.

1) The Toyota Prius: In addition to being number one as far as fuel efficiency goes, the Prius ranks 8 out of 23 affordable midsize cars. With its 1.5 liter engine and automatic transmission, the Prius gets a whopping 45 miles to the gallon in the city and 48 miles to the gallon on the highway, making it easily the most fuel-efficient car on the market right now. Estimated annual fuel costs for the Prius come to about $1,304 which, combined with its affordable price make this an ideal car for almost anyone.

Believe it or not, these three fuel efficient cars all have considerable interior space and excellent safety features. So along with its fuel efficiency, these three vehicles come well equipped to entice any target market.

As time progresses, the age of gas-guzzlers is slowly fading into the past. With all of the new developments in the automotive world, there's no reason why everyone can't do their part to reduce pollution caused by motor vehicles.
