Total View Adjustable Blind Spot Mirror Review: Better Road Vision or Just Another Gimmick?

Posted: Jan 31, 2011 |Comments: 0 | Views: 109 |

The Total View Adjustable Blind Spot Mirror is a new As Seen on TV product that claims to solve the one issue we all face on the road: blind spots in our side mirrors. As useful as our existing side mirrors are, they will never be able to give us full confidence to change lanes or back up without worrying about what might be missing from our sight. So, we shift our heads around, trying to see everything & take our eyes away from the road in the process. Not exactly a safe scenario.

The Total View Mirror claims to triple the size of our field of vision, virtually eliminating all blind spots for a safer driving experience. What is unique about these mirrors is the swivel-joint backing that makes it very easy for different drivers to adjust. So whether you, your spouse or your teenager is driving, the Total View can be adjusted to their liking. This swivel-joint also allows the Total View to work independently from the side-view mirror itself even though it is attached.

This week, I received a sample of the Total View Adjustable Blind Spot Mirror from the manufacturer for a test. After installing in just a few minutes with the included 3M adhesive, I was on the road giving them a test run. It took me a minute or two to figure out the best way to adjust the Total View Mirror for the best range of vision. But once I had the adjustment right for me, the difference was dramatic.

The biggest impact of the Total View Mirror was on the driver's side. Since I drive a small SUV, the interior roll-bar is directly behind the left shoulder and in order to get a clear path of vision, I'm forced to have to lean forward and look backward. This is very dangerous. The vehicle usually is still moving forward and I am totally turned around. The Total View Mirror completely eliminated the need to do this since I now can see anything on that side of the vehicle. Whether it's low, high or off to the side, I now can see it.

As I mentioned, I did not have as much impact from the Total View Mirror on the passenger side. Mostly because the distance from the driver's side to the passenger mirror is further in an SUV & because it's not as difficult to quickly over that shoulder. But, for backing up in a driveway that may have small children or yard toys laying around, I wouldn't hesitate to make use of it.

Overall, I would give the Total View Adjustable Blind Spot Mirror a very high rating. A perfect example of taking an old product idea and making it 10 times better. The adjustability factor makes this version much more useful & effective. And if you believe in the old adage of "an ounce of prevention," you can see the value in spending $10 to save yourself from either a small collission or a big disaster.
