Understanding Road Signs

There are so many roads in the UK that road signs are vital ni protecting road users and stopping confusion. But there are so many different signs that understanding them can be really difficult. Get a grasp on the different colours and what they mean and make the drive a whole lot less stressful.

There are three main colours for signs and these are important to remember. White and blue is synonymous with motorways, a primary route will be a green background with white writing and non primary roads are plain black and white.

Circular signs that are white with a red border are normally instructions or orders, and are often prohibitive, like no entry signs of speed limits.

Triangular signs which are white with a red border are most likely to be a warning to road users like give way signs and danger signs.

Circular signs with a blue border are normally positive instructions, to notify you of hanging circumstances like a change where a road becomes one way.

Yellow signs are commonly indicative of road works.

Brown signs normally indicate places of interest or landmarks, like Buckingham palace of Marwell zoo.

Traffic signs in the UK are quite similar to those across Europe, so if oyou are driving on the continent then you should find it equally as easy. There are some signs that are unique to Britain, and likewise there are some on the continent that we don't use here, so if you will be driving abroad make sure you have read up in the relevant country.

When embarking on a journey, make sure you have Car Insurance.
