India is one of the major market places for German automaker Volkswagen AG Group. The company has been launching innovative and new car models especially targeted to consumers in India. Following the success of Polo hatchback, the company launched the new Volkswagen Vento in 2010 July.
Volkswagen Vento is the sedan version of Volkswagen Polo. So far Honda City is the supposedly the best sedan of its segment, VW Group believes that the Vento will overcome the race as this product is designed with ample of innovative technologies, lots of luxury features and all of that coming with attractive price tag. Vento mainly competes with Honda City and the other competitors of this car are Maruti SX4, Tata Manza, Ford Fiesta and Chevrolet Aveo.
There are totally five variants of Volkswagen Vento that are available in India at present. The model comes with both petrol and diesel engine options with the displacement of 1598 cc with five speed manual gearbox transmission and optional six speed automatic gearbox transmission. The manual gearbox variants of Vento gives the mileage of 11.2 km per liter in city and 15.83 km per liter in highway and the automatic versions of Vento gives the mileage of 14.4 km per liter in highway. Volkswagen Vento price for the petrol variant ranges from 7 lacs to 9.3 lacs and the diesel variant has a price range of 8 lacs to 9.3 lacs.
Volkswagen Vento is powered with with DOHC 1.6 Liter petrol engine and 1.6 Liter CommonRail Turbocharged diesel engine (which is one of the most powerful engines of its segment), both the engines have same displacement of 1598 cc. The in-line petrol engine can churn out the maximum power of 105 Ps at the rate of 5250 rpm and maximum torque of 153 Nm at the rate of 3800 rpm whereas its diesel engine can churn out the peak power of 105 Ps at the rate of 4400 rpm and the maximum torque of 250 Nm at the rate of 1500-2500 rpm.
Volkswagen Vento exterior is more or less similar to its hatchback version Polo as the both of the models have an uplifted bolder front grille. We can see the main differences between these cars at rear end as the Vento comes with squarish innovative LED tail lights, which makes its rear unique and trendy. Apart from that it comes with 14" inch steel wheel with full wheel covers that makes the car sporty. Further more, the car's exterior is beautified with halogen lights, body colored bumpers, door handles and OVRM and so on.
Coming to the exterior measurements, the dimensions of Vento are length – 4384 mm, width – 1699 mm, height 1466 mm, wheelbase – 2552 mm and ground clearance - 168 mm and its exterior is coated with attractive colors like flash red, candy white, shadow blue, terra beige, deep black and reflex silver. However, candy white and flash red available in Trendline and Highline variants and rest of the color options are available only in Highline variant.
Volkswagen Vento has spacious and sophisticated interior that bring pleasant ride to the passenger at terrific traffic Indian roads. It is loaded with ample of comfort and luxurious features like sunglass storage cabin in glove box, one liter bottle holders in front doors, warning triangle holder, coat hooks in foldable roof handles, couple of cup-holders in center console, rear seat back rest, chrome coated AC vents, beige and black dual tone anti-glare dashboard and many other.
Coming to the safety part, Volkswagen Vento is equipped with advanced safety features like Anti-Lock Breaking System with EBD, Anti theft system, high mount warning lamps, electronic immobilizer, front disc brakes, dual airbags and many more.
