Waukegan Used Car Owners Agree: Their Toyotas Are Still Great

Posted: Mar 03, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

There has already been a lot of talk about the Toyota recall. The same members of the media that have praised the cutting-edge Prius are quickly turning on the Japanese manufacturer as a result of one of their first transgressions in the automaker's long history. But where were these same members of the media when other manufacturers have strayed with recalls? There seems to be quite a bit of forgiveness for the rest of the industry, but it looks like Toyota is getting a bum wrap for this one. I'll be honest: I still maintain the brand loyalty I've had for the cutting-edge manufacturer since I started driving my Camry about a decade ago.

I've never owned a Prius, but I know from friends that do have one that the car holds up to the scrutiny of even the strongest fuel efficiency advocate. Round Lake used cars dealers claim that the Prius is one of their best selling cars, which isn't too surprising considering the money drivers can save with the innovative engine technology. What is to become of Toyota? Well, first the manufacturer will have to make it through the criminal investigation the government has just begun. Only then will Waukegan used cars dealers be able to breathe normally.

There are, however, two sides to every coin. Consumers can't ignore the fact that the faulty brakes have caused several deaths and still other serious accidents. This is a serious transgression by the manufacturer, regardless of how well the Prius usually performs, one that has even Gurnee used cars dealers shaking with anticipation. But Toyota fans can also take comfort in the fact that this is one of the first major recalls in the brand's history, a title that cannot be shared by nearly any other manufacturer in the industry. Yes, over the years, Toyota's reputation has been built on dependability, and a single recall shouldn't erase so many years of brand loyalty.

Still, Round Lake used cars dealers are skeptical that the entirety of their customer base will be back after the results of the government investigation. But the "All Cars Electric" blog spoke to some Prius drivers, and the results were pretty interesting. For one driver, Peter Pappas of Rochester New York, the results won't hinder his driving experience. "It's a hypothetical danger," he claims, referring to the problems that caused the recall in the first place. "I love the way my Prius integrates into my life — it recognizes me when I approach, answers my phone, plays my iPod… it's a great car."

Waukegan used cars dealers feel a little more at ease hearing from customers like Pappas, who are standing by their cars even as Toyota takes the heat. But will Pappas' feelings resonate throughout Toyota's extensive customer base? It's not likely – not until the business has been completely wrapped up and the media scrutiny has died down. Gurnee used cars dealers will have to wait until then to really find out the long-term effects this recall will have on brand loyalty.
