You Need To Know What They Do To Your BMW
There is an old saying that I believe is true.
No matter what you are doing in life, this one rule will make everything a lot easier for you. But over the years, I have seen hundreds and hundreds of people give absolutely no thought to this one simple idea.
“Look at the beginning with the end in mind”.
Simply put, if you’re fixing your car don’t scatter your tools everywhere because you only have to spend time picking up after yourself when the job is finished. Or, if you’re painting your house, don’t just drop your paint brush, rollers and pans wherever you feel like it. Plan your work and everything will be easier for you.
There is no better example of this idea then BMW as a company. Here’s why.
Not only is the design and production of a BMW very efficient, but also they have given serious thought to how to dispose of their cars at the end of their useful lives. Right from the very beginning, BMW looks at the manufacturing of their cars with the ultimate end in mind of how it will be disposed of one day. Not only is this great corporate responsibility at work, but also it’s the smart thing to do.
At their recycling plant near Munich, BMW processes more than 2000 vehicles per year at this unique facility. With more than 1700 tons of body shells , 200 tons of oil and fuel, 20 tons of plastics, 30 tons of non-ferrous metals and 5 tons of batteries, these materials are not just discarded into a landfill somewhere. No way. BMW has a much better idea that’s good for them and good for the environment.
Anything that still has a useful life is sold on the open market as a used part.
In addition to selling the recycled parts, BMW had another reason for creating their recycling plant. Its main purpose is to be a research and development center that will give them insights into the best ways to dismantle their vehicles. In fact, BMW has designed and created their own unique machines to make the operation smoother and more efficient to dismantle their cars. What they discovered was another great benefit that saves BMW time and money.
What BMW learned from their recycling plant is very important and benefits you.
Here is an easy way to think about BMW recycling. If you know what problems you will face when you dismantle a vehicle, you can avoid those problems by designing improvements into the cars right from the very beginning. The important lesson learned here was how to build environmentally friendly vehicles that are easy to dismantle and recycle at the end of their useful life.
Gee, didn’t I already say that at the start of this article?
Just in case you missed it, let me tell you one more time. Look at the beginning with the end in mind. That’s good advice that will benefit you no matter what kind of work you do. It works for BMW and it works for me. And you benefit because you get a safer and more affordable BMW.
Great idea, don’t you think?
