Samsung has unveiled a budget QWERTY phone that the Korean mobile phone giant hopes will attract the youthful trendy social networking markets. The pictures on the net show a pink-black mobile phone that betrays the market demographics the Samsung B3310 is aiming at.
But recent word has it that it will come out in other color schemes as well, notably a blue-black one. So that should cover a wider market. There’s a QWERTY side –sliding keyboard that at first look gives the impression the B3310 is also a messaging phone. That’s quite accurate, and it’s also a social networking phone as well.
Good Value in a Budget Mobile Phone
This QWERTY side-slider is your basic quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE phone. No 3G or high speed HSDPA support. But that’s understandable on an entry level phone. Here are the features that make the B3310 a capable phone that deliver an excellent feature/price ratio to the youthful market.
- The handset comes in at 91 x 54 x 17mm size weighing just 101 grams to make it fall in the category of a slim and light mobile phone that can slip easily in the shirt or trouser pockets.
- It sports a 2 inch TFT LCD display with a QVGA resolution with 16-Bit 256k color depth. Not a stand-out its own but good enough at its anticipated price point as an entry level phone.
- Its QWERTY slider sports finger-friendly keys that make instant messaging and emailing fast and easy for just about every one.
- The handset features one-click access to favourite online social networking sites like Flickr, MySpace and Facebook. No advice form Samsung if Twitter is supported but that can be added later.
- It’s got the usual features of a capable multimedia mobile phone with a media player that can play the popular audio and video formats in the market and an FM radio thrown in. Again, Samsung doesn’t say if that’s in stereo.
- It has a fairly decent 2.0 megapixel snapper and a QVGA video recording ability that is typical feature for a budget phone.
- There’s a modest 43 MB internal memory you can expand up to 16 GB using a microSD memory expansion card.
- There’s Bluetooth 2.1 for wireless data connectivity and it supports A2DP for wireless stereo headsets.
- Talk time is a decent 5 hours on the GSM network with a respectable standby time of up to 15 days.
Everything you Need in One Phone
It is clear that the B3310 is a nod to every feature we’ve come to expect from a capable mobile phone at its price point. You get a capable camera and media functions as well as the more relevant messaging and social networking features that market wants. All that in a neat trendy body that has one foot into the fashion phone genre.
Arriving in September this year, the B3310 is something to look forward to as a fairly capable phone with excellent feature/price ratio. It’s already available in France and the UK market isn’t far.
