If you are thinking of picking up your own BlackBerry Storm 2 then you should compare all the deals available, for the Storm 2 on Vodafone and Storm 2 12-month contracts. By comparing you could find your ideal contract for less.
In summary, the new Storm comes with a solid Operating System with a number of impressive features that you would likely want in your mobile phone. Added to that is the more responsive touch screen that is loaded with peizo technology, the latest from Research In Motion (RIM), makers of the Blackberry.
On the other side, users and reviews cited shortcomings such as the poor internet browser and the poor make of the battery cover that needs a bit tweaking with some tool in order to open it.
However, there are a number of things to celebrate about the coming of the Blackberry Storm 2. Putting calling and messaging functions aside, here are some reasons to fall for the second Storm.
Media
As you’d expect from a Blackberry, the media functions in the new Storm are considerably good, despite the absence of an FM Radio that almost always comes in handy when in a football stadium and you want to listen to commentaries as you watch your team struggle and lose again.
The music player functions as it should be. It supports album art, which is displayed on screen while the music is playing, along with the title and the artist and nothing more to distract you, which is quite neat actually. When opening the music player, the screen displays a well laid out list of songs sorted according to Artist, Album or Genre. You can also play on a random mode with the Shuffle songs option provided.
Track management buttons, such as play, pause and shuffle are easily accessible on the screen. If you have a few hundred songs in your collection, the 2 GB card will fairly hold well but is also upgradeable through the SD card slot.
The movie player is similarly good and does its job well as we expect it to be. It plays a large amount of vide formats such as MPEG4, H.263, H.264 and WMV. AVI files need to be converted in order to make them work on the device. It also resizes video display to fit in the phone’s screen display. The HVGA screen has a very clear display making the Storm 2 ideal for watching movies while on the go.
Applications
Of course, the smart phones of today wouldn’t be whole without the array of applications to tinker with while mobile. Thus, the Blackberry Storm 2 has the Blackberry App World, which is a large ecosystem of applications that’s filled with a lot of functional items such as the translation software, meeting reminders and your favourite games.
Also pre-loaded and probably the most useful of the applications are the pseudo-Office applications where you can view, create and edit Word and Excel documents while on the go. This is best for people who have to do business on the road or away from home and the office.
Social Networking
A smart phone will not be complete, recently, if it does not support social networking functions. The Storm 2 comes with a number of social networking and IM applications. Included are a number of choices but the most popular and most useful are Google Talk and Yahoo Messenger. Facebook, which integrates instantly with the contacts groups and updates in real time is simply great.
