Flat pack furniture specialists Ikea are launching their own mobile virtual network on Friday the 8th of August 2008, the special mobile phone tariff will be available for the members of it’s loyalty programme – Ikea Family.
Ikea Family already offers discounts on selected Ikea products, a free home furnishings magazine quarterly and emailed news updates. Ikea currently have 1.4 million Ikea Family loyalty programme customers in the UK, and has teamed up with T-Mobile and virtual network specialists Mobile Partners UK to now offer prepay SIM cards.
Ikea are claiming to be 25% cheaper than any other comparable PAYG offer on the market – with calls at 9 pence per minute and texts at 6 pence each. You will only pay for the airtime you use and there are no fixed monthly payments or minimum spend (except for the £10 top up at purchase). The cost is low and is quite a bit lower than the five big mobile networks.
The service is being pitched at families as Ikea allow a number of SIM cards on each account and credit can be shared between the different numbers. So it will be good for parents who want to keep a track of their child’s mobile phone usage, or for people who only use a mobile in an emergency and can make £10 credit last a very long time!
As a nice little surprise Ikea have given all of it’s 9,500 employees a free Family Mobile SIM card with £5 credit pre-loaded along with a free mobile phone! So they all have no excuse for letting customers know how the service is working!
