While LG has announced that it is going to release a number of Windows Mobile-powered phones before the end of 2010, it seems that the other mobile operating system is not left out. Just recently, it has launched the LG GW620 that runs on an Android OS.
LG’s First Android
LG GW620 is LG's first ever phone that is powered by the search leader Google’s Android operating system. Thus, it offers users full access to Google services such as Google Mail, Google Maps, Google Voice and the Google search function straight from their mobile phones plus the full features of an android system that revolutionizes the concept of mobile computing.
It also has the Android Marketplace, where you are able to download a variety of application ranging from games to travel guides to computing tools and references. Google has announced that a lot of these applications are offered free of charge.
The Features
The phone is packed with features that will bring your mobile experience certainly beyond the bland voice call and messaging affairs, with computing very rarely used and only treated as a last resort. Topping them is the QWERTY format and well positioned tactile keyboard that is very conventional and allows high speed text input for those who uses messaging sparingly.
The Android browser, the default browser in GW620, is also said to be among the best browsers there is. Users of other android phones say it loads faster than Safari, already has Flash support and does everything a browser is expected to do. You can also add other browsers of your choice if you wish to.
Added to that is the 3G with high speed HSDPA support that allows for better connectivity. This smart phone supports Wi-Fi technology thus it can connect to a hotspot or wireless area network (WAN) whenever available, granting the user access to the internet without the wires and cables. The built-in GPRS and EDGE technologies provide users with higher transfer rates when transferring data files to another phone, computer or printer. All these features make up for a better mobile computing experience.
The Design
The phone comes in either a black casing with a subdued blue coloured keyboard or a black casing with a strikingly silver coloured keyboard. It slides on the side to bring out the QWERTY key format keyboard below the large three inch touch screen with a built-in automatic rotate function that allows users to rotate the handset for either a vertical or horizontal view.
The physical appearance is quite staple but the features boasts of a social networking services manager that will undoubtedly make it a highly attractive smart phone for the modern and young users.
