Huffington Post Owner in Plane Rage Row Over BlackBerry

Posted: Jan 12, 2011 |Comments: 0 |

The owner of highbrow news blog, The Huffington Post, has caused uproar on a recent flight after refusing to turn off her beloved BlackBerry. Arianna Huffington was drawn into a fierce row after continuing to use her BlackBerry mobile phone, even making calls during take-off.

The reports are likely to cause a touch of embarrassment for the famous American media mogul. Arianna Huffington was in Las Vegas, mingling with celebrities the night before her flight, including John Cusack, Mario Batali, and Floyd Mayweather. However her fall from grace came when Huffington was escorted off her plane by Port Authority police—for wanton, unsafe Blackberry-ing.

After causing a slight media ripple, her rep, Mario Ruiz, released this wickedly dry apology:

"Apparently there was a passenger who seemed upset. Arianna thought he didn't like the snacks. Guess not. Maybe he was an iPhone fan. As you know, the battle between iPhone lovers and BlackBerry users can get pretty heated."

Not quite what I'd class as an apology, but it just goes to show the power of RIB's infamous phone. Arianna joins a substantial list of famous faces who just can't part from their BlackBerry handhelds – despite the unfavourable labels of self importance that follow.

In December last year American actor Josh Duhamel was kicked off a plane headed from New York to Kentucky for refusing to turn off his BlackBerry. After requests for him to turn off his mobile phone it was reported Duhamel laughed at the flight attendant and began taunting her. At that point, she called for backup, the plane turned around, and police escorted Josh off the plane.

Some people never learn, and celebrity's still fail to understand that the law does sometimes apply to them.

So what is it about the BlackBerry that has all the A List hooked? Want to have your own piece of celebrity kit? Visit www.metrofone.co.uk today for the latest amazing deals on the brand new BlackBerry Torch 9800.
