The Nokia N96 slider phone has a unique design. It has two keypads that open up on opposite sides of the handset. The device can be slide opened either in upward or downward direction. One can gain access to its QWERTY keyboard by slide opening the handset in upward direction. When one moves its display downwards, it reveals another keypad that features a set of multimedia controls. One can also gain access to its navigation and shortcut keys even when the device lies in its slide closed position.
Being a successor of the Nokia N95 8GB, Nokia N96 has some king-size spec sheet to top and it can't be accused of not trying. There's FP2, double the built-in storage and DVB-H. The bloodline is strong but the crown is heavy and ancestral sins will be held against the heir twofold. The modest battery capacity and the downgraded CPU do raise some questions that need their answers. Join us for an out-and-out review of Nokia's latest top-of-the-shelf offer. Let's see if it has got the performance to walk in them shoes size N95.

Nokia has gone a step ahead with its latest model N96. A part of the N series, the model comes as a successor to N95. It has surpassed all the phones in the mobile arena with a capacity of 16 GB onboard phone memory and an option to expand it further, via a microSDHC slot, a capacity which no mobiles flaunt about right now. The cell phone has dimensions of 103 X 55 X 18mm and weighs 125 g. The only hitch in the phone is that its battery back up is not something exceptional.
Truth be told, size never seemed a turn-off with Nokia N95 8GB and we don't think it will be the deal-breaker for N96. Sadly, there are better reasons to be put off by this handset. The Nokia N96 mobile phone features every possible options for data connection including GPRS Class 32 with up to 107 kbps speed connection, HSCDS (High speed Cable Data Service connection), EDGE Class 32 with up to 296kbps speed connection, 3G network connection with up to 3.6 Mbps data speed, WiFi 802.11 b/g wireless LAN connection with UPnP technology and wireless Bluetooth v2.0 connection with A2DP. The wireless Bluetooth v2.0 connection with Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) feature offered by new Nokia N96 smart phone allows listening to music on Bluetooth compatible headset absolutely wire-free and in full stereo.
Transferring and accessing videos is even faster with the high-speed USB 2.0 connection and WLAN and HSDPA support. In select markets, the integrated DVB-H receiver offers live broadcast TV with an automatically updating program guide. The massive memory can store up to 40 hours of video content. The storage capacity of the Nokia N96 can even be further expanded with an optional microSD card, such as the new Nokia 8GB microSDHC Card MU-43 which increases the available memory of the Nokia N96 to a total of 24 GB. For added convenience, the Nokia N96 features a 'kickstand' on the back cover that allows for hands-free viewing.
For a superb music experience, the Nokia N96 features media keys, a 3.5 mm headphone connector and built-in 3D stereo speakers. The Nokia Maps application offers richer maps with urban details and satellite views and has upgrade options such as City Guides, turn-by-turn pedestrian mode and voice-guided car navigation.
