LG and the new LG Optimus 3D
The South Korean company LG has presented today in the Mobile World Congress 2011 of Barcelona its strategy for this year in the mobile industry, being the greatest exponent of such strategy the new LG Optimus 3D.
The LG Optimus 3D incorporates a 1GHz double core integrated in the OMAP4 chip-set of Texas Instruments with 4GB of DDR2 memory and 8GB of storage memory.
One of the most innovative features of this powerful device is the incorporation of a double stereoscopic camera which enables the real time recording of 3D videos. Such technology is similar to the one incorporated by Microsoft in its Kinect device but in this case the main concept introduced by LG is the glasses-free 3D display in addition to possibility of display its contents in the "classic" hardware devices compatible with HDMI and DLNA.
With this change of direction in the mobile phone world, LG stirs up an already dynamic industry, probably influencing in the next generations of mobile devices.
On a strategic plane, 2011 is starting to be challenging and intense year for the industry where the strategic alliances as the partnership announced by Microsoft and Nokia to face Apple and Google is creating an oligopoly panorama where the world of smart phones appears to be divided in three huge blocks managed by Google, Apple, and Microsoft and Nokia.
