How to switch by getting your Unique Porting ID through Mobile Number Portability in India
Step 1:
To switch operators Type PORT then leave a space then type your ten digit mobile number and then send it to 1900.
The created message will look like: PORT 9800842187. (Send it to 1900)
Step 2:
Then you will have (receive) a feedback by SMS from 1901 with a Unique Porting Code (UPC).
The received message from 1901 will be like: Your Unique Porting ID is AV799976 and the expiry date 14/02 /2011.
Step3:
Then you have to apply in the prescribed format to the service provider where you want to shift mentioning your Unique Porting Code (UPC) provided to you form 1901, attaching your identity proof, address proof, and photograph. Here you have to pay Rs 19/- as service charge.
Then your application will be processed by the new service provider.
Step4:
Then you will get an application receipt confirmation with the details of porting date.

Once the porting is completed, confirmation message will be sent to you.
Caution
This caution is specifically for the Airtel Subscriber,those who are looking for a change from Airtel to others. I have already told you Airtel is the worst service provider I have ever seen. For Mobile Number Portability in India has a rule that after your application submission, the master clearing house will take seven days to check if you have any outstanding dues with your previous network provider.
So don't keep any minus balance with your previous service provider. If you have minus balance, the master clearing house will fail to process your request.
If you are an Airtel subscriber please check your balance everyday during you process on request. For, it Airtel will try to tie you with them by keeping your SIM with a minus balance by activating any service so that you can't able to shift from Airtel to others. So Airtel subscribers are very careful during the time of your shifting from Airtel to others. Side by Side, TATA Docomo is giving offer to the subscribers, those who are coming to it from the other network service providers.
