Mobile Phone Contracts, What you Should Know!

The internet is awash with mobile phone offers and deals, but as a consumer how can you be sure that you are getting the right deal? This article attempts to provide the consumer with a checklist to run through, so that you feel more confident when choosing your next mobile phone contract.

The first thing to consider when choosing a mobile phone contract is the usage. Are you the sort of person who calls for hours on end? Perhaps you prefer to text rather than call? Whatever your usage pattern, you should try and work out roughly how many minutes and texts you use on average per month.

The second thing to consider is the mobile phone. Mobile phones come in all shapes and sizes so there is bound to be something to suit your communication requirements. Mobile phones are subsidised by the mobile phone contract. In essence this means that the more expensive your handset is, the fewer minutes or texts you will get for your money, or the higher the monthly cost will be.

The third thing to consider is the contract length. Over the past decade the cost of mobile phone contracts has been steadily decreasing. Based on this assumption you would think that you would be best advised to go for a contract with the shortest length. However this is counteracted by the fact that mobile phone operators offer a greater call and text allowance for longer deals.

Traditionally mobile phone contracts lasted for a 12 month period, after which, you would go onto a rolling agreement unless you chose to take an upgrade, If you decided to take the upgrade, then you would be tied in for another 12 months. Today mobile phone networks are offering deals of 18 and 24 months in an attempt to recoup some of the subsidy they offer for the mobile phone handset.

To summarize: To ensure that you get the best possible mobile phone deal you should do the following
1) Work out your monthly usage
2) Decide on a handset
3) Decide on a contract length

If you do these three things you will be equipped to make a well informed decision.
