My Efficient Blackberry Storm
"Can your phone make you more efficient?"
I don't believe in New Years Resolutions because why wait until a new year to make a valuable change? So in early December I went ahead and changed my cell phone from the Palm Treo to the new Blackberry Storm. WOW! What a difference.
First of all I am not an impulse buyer: I can only buy something when it satisfies specific goals or needs. Second I have to exhaust the use of my current tool before I feel justified in making the expenditure. Four years of using the same Treo is enough justification.
My goals were to:
- Improve my usage of communication tools (I had no idea how easy Blackberry makes it)
- Reduce or eliminate my need for a computer when on the road (oh yeah, the Storm can do most of what I need when on the road)
- Consolidate my tools into one
- Learn the new phone easily (it IS easy to use)
With my Storm I can now take good quality photos (with a flash), record audio notes, listen to music, get directions and maps, manage my calendar and tasks (synchs with Outlook), check the time and set alarms, receive and send emails for work (and personal), keep in touch with my team via instant message, use various applications and browse the web. Oh, and I can also talk on the phone, which has been very good quality thus far.
This one device has eliminated at least six other devices for me, including my computer when I'm on short road trips. Of course the Storm isn't the only Swiss Army Knife available but the clicking screen is amazing compared to the iPhone. Can your phone make you more efficient? It can when you know how and why you'll use its features.
