Locating the phone happens through the GPS in the cell phone and the alarm that alert that the phone is missing will be there regardless of the phone is on or off. There are over hundred changes in the new iPhone 3GS and in addition the new operating system 3.0 will be in all iPhones from now on. But not all owners of iPhones will get this benefit as owner of phones older than 2 years will not be able to get MMS on their phones.
