Phone Search - Free Reverse Cell Phone Number Lookups

Recently my daughter was getting a few prank calls and our whole family was introduced to the world of "Reverse Cell Phone Number Lookup". Before this I had no idea that such a thing existed. If there's anybody reading this that are as clueless as I was two weeks ago, there are two kinds of phone book lookups. The forward lookup is when you want to find out a person's telephone number whose name and address that you already know of. This is when we go to the White Pages, particularly if you are looking for a land phone. The reverse Lookup is when you have a telephone number and you want to find out the owner of the phone.

In our case, my daughter's caller ID was identifying the number, so we wanted a Reverse Phone Lookup to find out the name and address of the phone owner. Just because I don't want to make this boring for you, I'm going to list what I found out, so that hopefully it will be short and sweet rather than long and boring.

1. First we went to the whitepages.com, but they didn't have the number we were looking for.
2. We later found out that white pages only contains land phone numbers and no cell phone numbers.
3. So we tried to find a Verizon cell phone directory.
4. Then we found out that there were no public Verizon phone directories available.
5. In fact, not only Verizon, none of the wireless phone companies publish their subscriber lists on free phone books because that puts subscriber privacy in danger
6. Your cellular number may be linked with so much personal information that you have given out to different places that if somebody steals your mobile number, then theoretically they can even steal your identity.



7. So basically, because mobile numbers are not published in the public domain, our personal information is kept away from identity thieves and telemarketers and the like
8. However, all wireless numbers are stored in electronic databases by the phone companies for use in emergency situations just like the one I just had.
9. There are authorized companies who can access these data from thse databases
10. And you and I can access the same through these companies. So basically they're acting as a middle man between you and the 'top secret' databases and they're obviously not doing it free of charge
11. I found many websites that advertize them selves as Free Mobile Number Tracing services. I went to dozens of them and none of them gave me anything for free. This was very disturbing. I think they were just saying 'free' just to attract buyers.
12. I ultimately ended up paying a few dollars for a great service and the return on the investment in the form of peace of mind was unbelievable
13. We in fact ended up getting a unlimited search membership, so now we can trace anybody trying to pull a prank on us for one full year
