The all new Samsung Beat DJ also known as Samsung Platine was released in May, earlier this year and it is the first DJ phone where one can play, mix and scratch different tracks by using the specially designed interface. It has a very unconventional looking design with distinct rounded edges and the body is made of high grade material. The phone looks attractive due to the violet colour panels on the sides with metallic edges and a patterned grey back.
This quad-band GSM unit weighs close to 100 grams and is quite handy and light to carry around. The display of the unit is a 2.8 inches medium-sized AMOLED capacitive touchscreen of 240 x 400 pixels screen resolution and is equipped with a built-in accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate. The phone has an internal memory of 50MB which can be extended up to 16GB by using microSD cards and the standard package of the device comes along with an 8GB card. This 3G phone is loaded with Class10 GPRS and EDGE and allows high speed HSDPA for downloading files from the internet. The Beat DJ is also equipped with Bluetooth with A2DP and USB to facilitate easy data sharing between devices. All the functions in the phone are powered by a standard Li-Ion battery that gives a standby time of up to 300 hours and a talk time of over 4 hours in 3G service.
The most important feature of the Samsung Beat DJ is it's advanced music playback capability. The media player can playback a host of file formats like DivX, XviD, WMV and MP4 formats. It comes loaded with a built-in software where budding Djs can play and remix different tracks by mixing, adding effects and performing scratches. The phone comes with a specially designed music playback interface called the DISC UI. Moreover a special ICEpower amplifier, built-in stereo speakers and virtual surround sound system support the Beat DJ application. A 3.5mm audio socket is also provided that allows music to be played on external speakers.
Also included in this unique device is a 3.15 mega pixel camera with auto-focus and an LED flash. The camera has smart features like Geo-tagging, face and smile detection and is capable of recording videos of decent quality in VGA mode. A built-in GPS receiver with A-GPS support synchronises with the Google Maps application that is provide with the phone. There is also a stereo FM radio application and an MP3 player to keep the users entertained even when they are not Djing. Also included are an Organiser, Document viewer (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF), Voice memo/dial, video editing , mobile blogging and Email.
Certainly the Samsung Beat DJ is a very innovative addition in the collection of latest mobile phones from Samsung. We are hoping that the music never stops playing and this DJ keeps rolling and looping for a very long time.
