Since the launch of iPhone, every phone launched is compared feature by feature with the Apple’s marvelous creation. The phone has raised the bar for every device launched in the high end segment.
Let it be any device from Nokia, Samsung or Sony Ericsson, the success bar is measured from the level of competition they offer to iPhone in terms of features or design.
Sony Ericsson, the one time leader is geared to bring its nostalgic creation that is long awaited Idou, now named as “Satio”. The mobile maker is very positive with the device and hopes to get back to the track, once launched.
The article is just an attempt to draw comparison between Satio and iPhone and to highlight the features that can really pose threat to the later.
1. 12 MP camera: Against the 2MP camera of iphone, 12MP is very fascinating and appealing. On the other hand, at the practical note users ever wants to have a 12MP camera phone with them. But with all goods and bad, the attempt is praise worthy and is really challenging for the iPhone. The feature is the USP for Satio.
2. Cheaper option: With Satio, Sony Ericsson has given a sincere effort to bring a low cost device that is really competent to iPhone. The new Satio will be available free on contract as compared to the upward payment of 50 pounds on some packages.
3. Messaging now is Fun: With Satio, messaging is whole a pretty easy concept. The phone lacks the intuitive word recognition that the iPhone sports, but the Satio has a nice keypad in both QWERTY and alphanumeric modes.
4. Symbian OS: The mobile maker has really worked on the looks of this magical device. Apart from the looks, the company has taken care of the interface. With the new operating system beneath the phone, the new effort is really a breather and adds whole lot of functionality to the device by popping the media at the bottom, navigation at the top and scrollable screens to move between different options.
5. Lots of movies: The Play now Arena with Movies will allow users to have 15 free downloads for the handset. This is not it. Also, the users will be able to download five more free per month.
6. One handed operation: The phone supports real good touchscreen capability as allows the user to operate it single handedly with most icons in easy swiping range.
7. Expandable Memory: The expandable memory is one feature that ranks Satio above the iPhone. Sony Ericsson has bundled an 8GB microSD card in Satio, and with a 32GB microSD card on the very near horizon, users will be able to pop in some massive storage whereas iPhone users will have to keep tethering back to their computer and iTunes.
With so many pluses, the Satio has many minuses that can push it back in the competition and iPhone can come out as winner.
1. Satio does not support so many applications as Apple iphone does. The sheer amount of applications and additional content available to the users is an add on for iPhone users where Satio really takes the back seat. Even no app store is slated on cards.
2. With so many easy to use features available in Satio, the one really good feature with iPhone is its simplicity. It just slides under the finger and is mainly about the internet in various guises.
3. If looks are to be considered, no doubt that Sony Ericsson has cut down on the size but to add that camera on the back it had to sacrifice a fair bit of pocket space, which is something not acceptable to the fashion conscious users of today.
