Sony Ericsson mobile phones have a very varied range currently on the market. In fact they probably have more choice than ever before - which can make things a tad confusing for the customers they are aimed at.
In this quick guide i'm going to try and explain to you what market sector each model is aimed at to try and make things a little clearer for you. I've been in the mobile phone industry now for 10 years so i do have an in-depth knowledge of the products on offer.
The first category i have chosen to discuss are the music phones which are always labeled the Sony Ericsson Walkman phones. These have been around for about 3 years or thereabouts now and are very popular with the under 30's consumer. There are currently in the region of 9 Walkman models available and most of these are available in a range of distinctive colours.
All Walkman models start with the prefix "W and "feature MP3 player and an FM radio and come included with all of the necessary software and hardware such as CD and stereo headset, so that you can get going with putting music on your phone from the moment you open the box. Most models have expandable memory so that you can increase the amount of songs on your phone by buying a bigger microSD card, although they very often come included with a microSD.
The most popular mid-range phone is the Sony Ericsson W580i which is available in grey, black, white and pink. The W580i features bluetooth, 2 megapixel camera, quad band capability (for worldwide use), a pedometer to check your daily fitness routines and of course an Mp3 player and FM radio. It's a "sliding handset" which means that the keypad is covered by the face and you simply slide it up for use.
Other popular models are the W610i, W880i, W910i and the range topping Sony Ericsson W960i which is a very expensive phone but has a 8Gb of memory and can store over 8000 songs which is quite impressive. It also sports a touch screen so you can use the stylus to operate the handset if you wish. The screen is enormous and makes using the W960i an absolute joy. All the usual features you would expect are present such as bluetooth, 3.2 megapixel camera and it also has the ability of 3G, so you can make video calls to your friends and family.
The second category are the Cybershot camera phones that start with a "K" prefix. These as the title suggests are the perfect combination of digital camera and mobile phone and range from the budget K530i through to the range topping Sony Ericsson K850i . The cybershot phones all feature the "double-front" design. From the front they appear to be just an ordinary phone and from the rear they look exactly as a conventional digital camera would with sliding lens cover. On the early models you had to slide the cover open yourself, but nowadays such as with the K850i it happens automatically with a satisfying whirr ! The K850i has a 5 megapixel digital camera which is absolutely superb in use. With auto focus, red eye reduction and image stabiliser it really is a quality product. The K850i is currently available in 2 colours, luminous green and in blue.
The last category are the fashion handsets. These basically concern the Sony Ericsson S500i which is available in black, yellow and copper and the much ignored Sony Ericsson T650i.
The S500i has proven to be extremely popular amongst the teenage generation due to it's looks, features and it's relatively cheap - all the necessary ingredients that a top seller requires. It features expandable memory up to 1Gb, bluetooth, 2Mp camera and a slick-slide design. The T650i is a bit of an odd-ball really as it's a kind of mixture of the K810i and a W880i which should you would think be a sales winner but sales of this model are lower than the other two. We can only put this down to the T650i having an "identity crisis" and not being aimed at a particular segment & until recently it was very expensive.
All in all that just about wraps it up from me. There's bound to be a Sony Ericsson phone to suit your needs and requirements- Whether you're an avid photographer, music lover or plain fashion guru, you'll find the right one to suit you.

Nokia tried it a few years ago with a massive brick of a device & then subsequently gave up on them even after the enourmously popular 5140i. Sony Ericsson tried it with the R210 but that was about 7 years ago and they too gave up on them. Time passed and then last year Samsung unveiled the M110 Solid......& it was a massive hit !
