Sony Ericsson Satio: Living Up To a Revered Lineage

Posted: Sep 10, 2009 | Views: 115 |

As we gaze at the wonder that is the Sony Ericsson Satio, we can’t help but look back at the progress the company has made ever since it broke through the mobile phone industry. We don’t intend to go back to the early days; only as far as the times wherein the Japanese manufacturer changed the game with their innovative line of devices. We’re talking about the Cyber-Shot and the Walkman series of mobile phones which surely had a say on how things would play out in the world of mobile phone photography and music, respectively. The new Satio happens to be both. How does it fare, might you ask? Here’s our two cents worth.

Cyber-Shot Legacy

As far as we can remember, it was probably the Sony Ericsson K800 that was the first Cyber-Shot mobile phone. Although it wasn’t officially part of the Sony Ericsson C Series (or the Cyber-Shot Series), it definitely revolutionized the world of mobile photography when it was released in 2006. Back then its 3.2-Megapixel camera was already able to wow the world as it delivered high quality images (maximum was 2048 x 1536 pixels). My how times have changed. Only over three years later, we have the latest Cyber-Shot device that has almost 4 times the Megapixel power of its original predecessor.

However, it’s not all about the 12-Megapixel snapper for the Satio. Along with a neat set of camera features, the device will also have the famed Sony Ericsson photo gallery. Aside from having full customization options, the gallery is also among the best in the business in terms of navigation and user-friendliness.

The Legendary Walkman

Around 1 year before the first Cyber-Shot mobile phone, Sony Ericsson released the W800. It was the first in the W or Walkman Series and this device too altered the way mobile phones were adapted to music. Sony Ericsson has definitely taken things to a whole new level since then. And now, with the new Sony Ericsson Satio, they intend to continue the success that they developed through the years.

It wouldn’t be a Walkman phone if it didn’t have the famed Walkman player. When it comes to looks and usability, this player’s UI is definitely one of the top dogs in the industry. The Satio will also come with the familiar high-quality speaker set, but the standard 3.5 mm jack is a notable absence.
