Superior phone interfaces from Korea - LG vs Samsung

The battle for the hearts and minds of mobile phone users is being fought in earnest, and nowhere can the rivalry been any more bly than between LG and Samsung, the two big Korean manufacturers. Let's see how their phones stack up against one another.

LG Arena - S-Class shows other interfaces how it's done...

Everything about the LG Arena looks incredible. The brushed metal body does a great job of giving it that eminent sex appeal, but it's what's inside that really counts, as the LG Arena uses the brand new S-Class interface, which is best described as a 3D, revolving cube, that you control with a fingertip. It truly does look beautiful, and it makes the LG Arena one of the most intuitive phones available.

Tie that in a 5MP camera, a superb (and I do mean superb) media player, and TV-Out socket, and you get one of the most user-friendly, and best (and certainly one of the prettiest), multimedia phones in existence.

Samsung Tocco Ultra - when Looks turn to Touch

But what happens if you want a phone that has both a touchscreen AND a keypad? Then for you, there's the Samsung Tocco Ultra, that combines the touchscreen goodness of the Tocco, with the sleek looks of the Ultra Edition series, to make a phone that's shockingly thin, considering it includes both a huge touchscreen, and a full alphanumeric keypad.

The Samsung Tocco Ultra also inherits the TouchWiz interface from its predecessor, and that makes for an incredible user experience. The features are better than the Arena, too, as it also has an 8 megapixel camera.

Samsung Omnia HD - the most powerful video phone in the world?

As nice as the Samsung Tocco Ultra is, however, it's overshadowed by its 'big brother', the Samsung Omnia HD. There's a very good reason for that. Whilst it, like the Samsung Tocco Ultra has an 8 megapixel camera, the Samsung Omnia HD is also the first phone to record true 720p HD video. Never before has a phone been able to capture video at that massive high resolution, and coincidentally (or is it coincidence? Maybe not...), the Samsung Omnia HD captures high-def video at the exact quality that Youtube display high-def videos at. It's very possible that the Samsung Omnia HD was designed with its main feature being the ability to get yourself on Youtube, in high-definition. And while the LG Arena has the sleek new S-Class UI, the Samsung Omnia HD combines its TouchWiz interface with Symbian, giving it true smartphone capability. Now add the sumptuous 3.7 inch screen, and a huge 8Gb of internal memory, and it's very clear that the Samsung Omnia HD not only shows the difference between feature phones and smartphones, but also, it deserves to be one of the phones of the year!
