The Appealing HTC Sensation XL Boasts Numerous High End Features

HTC has been going from strength to strength over the last couple of years, and one of their more popular handsets has been the HTC Sensation. Recently, two upgraded versions have been released, the HTC Sensation XE and HTC Sensation XL. In this article I will focus on the latter, looking at its key features.

The HTC Sensation XL, as the name suggests, is somewhat bigger than the original Sensation. With a 4.7 inch screen, compared to the 4.3 inch offering of the original, it is clearly aimed at those who prefer a larger touchscreen. Despite its size, it still has a very good pixel resolution on 480x 800, meaning that any content displayed on the screen is done so in the utmost quality and clarity, be it video, photos, games, web pages or the user interface in general.

16 GB of onboard storage is provided as standard, and although there is no microSD slot, this should be sufficient for the needs of most users when it comes to storing a music collection on the phone. Speaking of music, this is one of the strengths of the HTC Sensation XL. With integrated Beats Audio by Dr. Dre, the sound quality is simply superb, and there is also the added bonus of a set of the sought after Beats earphones supplied with the handset.

Much of what is good about the original Sensation has been carried over to this model; the 8 megapixel digital camera with flash and 1080p video capture, and the fast download speeds; but at the same time, there have been several performance upgrades. The most significant of these is the new processor. The dual-core chip has been upped to 1.5 GHz, making this, along with the HTC Sensation XE, the most powerful smartphone currently available in terms of processing power. This really gives the handset a boost when it comes to multitasking (running 2 or more applications simultaneously), such as playing music whilst simultaneously browsing the internet or writing an email.

Android v2.3 (aka Gingerbread) id the OS of choice, and this sports the latest version of HTC Sense (v3.5), the manufacturer's custom Android interface. This offers many attractive attributes, such as the ability to customise up to 7 individual homescreens with various themes, colour schemes, widgets and apps. Android Market is on hand to provide downloadable apps, of which there are thousands to choose from, from many different categories (much like the famous Apple AppStore). With the processing power and RAM offered by the HTC Sensation XL, no apps are off limits.

Overall, the HTC Sensation XL looks like a good all round handset. It is very powerful, highly customisable, and equipped to be very versatile. If you prefer a larger touchscreen and the Android platform, this handset comes highly recommended.
