Expert on mobile phones, having worked in the industry for over 7 years.
Recently announced at the Mobile World Congress, the LG Arena and Samsung Tocco Ultra seem to be going after similar markets. But which one should you spend your money on?
LG Arena - new interface, new hotness
LG have raised the bar for mobile phones several times, with phones like the Viewty, and they've done it again with the brilliant LG Arena. There's an obvious reason for that: its interface. That's because the LG Arena is the first handset by the Korean manufacturer to feature their new S-Class interface, which shows you everything as icons on a 3D cube, that you spin around using your fingertips. It's a superb interface, and it means the LG Arena really is a phone you'll want to touch and play with. Give it a 5 megapixel camera, and an awesome media player, and you get one of the greatest multimedia handsets in the industry, with the LG Arena.
Samsung Tocco Ultra - when Looks turn to Touch
But what happens if you want a phone that has both a touchscreen AND a keypad? Then for you, there's the Samsung Tocco Ultra, that combines the touchscreen goodness of the Tocco, with the sleek looks of the Ultra Edition series, to make a phone that's shockingly thin, considering it includes both a huge touchscreen, and a full alphanumeric keypad. The Samsung Tocco Ultra also inherits the TouchWiz interface from its predecessor, and that makes for an incredible user experience. The features are better than the Arena, too, as it also has an 8 megapixel camera.
LG Arena vs. Samsung Tocco Ultra - which should you get?
So, it comes down to a simple question, should you get the LG Arena, with its brand new S-Class interface and metal body, or should you get the Samsung Tocco Ultra, that takes a cool interface, and adds on a full keypad. Well, to be honest, when you factor that keypad in, that beautiful slim body, and the factor the camera's far better, the Samsung Tocco Ultra does make for a better phone. But the answer may surprise you: you should wait for a third phone, from Sony Ericsson: the incredible Idou, due out later in the year, which features a bigger screen than both, comes with the latest touch version of Symbian S60 (ie/ the version that will become the Symbian Foundation OS), and has a massive 12 megapixel camera. It shocked everyone with its appearance out of the blue at the MWC, so it's only fitting it shocked you by appearing in this comparison of two other phones, and trounced both of them. The Idou is going to be the phone of the year... count on it!
