Following the launch of the Apple iPad, numerous manufacturers have announced their intentions to enter the tablet computer market, while Samsung already released their tablet device, the Samsung Galaxy Tab. The Samsung Tab has more to offer than the highly popular iPad, on paper at least...

The Samsung device is an extremely resourceful device. All that users could have imagined in terms of technology are all included in this state-of-the-art device.

The size of the Samsung tablet is 190x120 mm and remains slimline, only 12 mm and weighing 380g. Thus, in terms of weight, it is far more portable than the iPad. It has a TFT touch-screen of 7 inches, displaying up to 16 million colours within the 600x1024 pixel screen. All these provide top notch quality HD display. Videos in high definition can be enjoyed as they were intended to.  The TouchWiz UI, known from the Samsung Galaxy S, provides users a user friendly and customizable user experience. The screen has multi-touch support with such functions as zoom in with a pinch, the accelerometer sensor, as well as the unique Swype text input method.

Samsung offers two models, with 16 GB or 32 GB internal storage, with plenty of storage for the needs of most users. The included storage can be further extended with the micro-SD card slot, which can hold a memory card of up to 32 GB.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab is not just a tablet device, but also a phone which includes Bluetooth and hands-free headset compatibility. As a phone it connects to the cellular networks via GPRS or EDGE. For internet connection it uses HSDPA in areas with 3G coverage. Thanks to the Wi-Fi connectivity a superior browsing experience can be achieved in areas with local wireless networks.

Unlike the iPad, the Galaxy Tab features not only one, but two cameras. The high resolution camera with 3.15 megapixels can be found on the back of the tablet and includes LED flash, autofocus and also allows users to shoot video footage. A secondary camera is placed on the front, functioning both as a web cam and for video calls.

The operating system of the Galaxy Tab is Android 2.2 Froyo, working with a 1Ghz processor for an amazing, fast and responsive user experience.  With access to the Android Market, users can download various apps according to their needs.  There is virtually no limit in terms of customization and will further enhance the device's high level of functionality and overall performance.

Samsung has managed to create something truly unique and fantastic with this tablet computer. It is definitely the new star on the red carpet of tablet computers.
