The smartest non-smartphones in the world

Not everyone wants a high-end smartphone, instead favouring a feature phone. But the thing is, modern day feature phones are not that far off being smartphones themselves. Let's take a look at three of the best.

Sony Ericsson W995

If there's one name that really stands out in the world of music phones, it's 'Walkman'. What happens, though, if you take a Walkman phone, and give it an 8MP camera that's straight out of a Cyber-Shot phone? You get the utterly brilliant Sony Ericsson W995!

The combination of Walkman and Cyber-Shot is what makes the Sony Ericsson W995 so very compelling. Top-end imaging is just a button-press away, and the Sony Ericsson W995 always makes music sound better than anything you can imagine. It doesn't have a smartphone OS, but with a phone as good as the Sony Ericsson W995, it just won't matter.

Samsung Tocco Ultra

Our next phone is something a bit different, because as well as a slide-out keypad, it's also got a superb touchscreen interface. It's the Samsung Tocco Ultra, and it really is a thing of beauty. As with the previous phone, the Samsung Tocco Ultra may not have a bona-fide smartphone OS, but it more than makes up for that with an exquisite interface, that makes the phone a real joy to use. Combine that with an 8MP camera, and true supermodel good looks, and you have a real winner in the Samsung Tocco Ultra.

LG Viewty Smart

While the Sony Ericsson W995 brings you the absolute best in music and imaging, the Samsung Tocco Ultra beats it in terms of looks. But there's a phone out there that fits the phrase 'phone that's nearly a smartphone, without actually being a smartphone': the aptly named LG Viewty Smart. Following on from the original Viewty, the LG Viewty Smart follows the same design ethos of having a touchscreen only interface (the awesome S-Class interface), squeezed into a slim body, but it ups the ante with a superb 8MP camera. It also has HSDPA, making it a truly portable internet device. Put simply, the LG Viewty Smart is the smartest non-smartphone in the world!
