The X8 By Sony Ericsson Is A Great Looking Android Smartphone

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8 is a mid level smartphone which, judging by its spec list is aimed at those seeking an affordable smartphone which is compatible with a range of multimedia formats, whilst also providing social networking features for users of sites such as Facebook.

The handset is extremely compact measuring just 99x 54x 15 mm whilst weighing just 104 g.  This makes it a pleasure to hold and use on the move and very pocket friendly.  The front of the handset is dominated by a 3 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen which boasts the ability to display up to 16 million colours within its pixel layout of 320x 480.  The screen is manufactured from scratch-resistant materials protecting it from everyday wear and tear whilst accelerometer and proximity sensors are included.

In order to alert users to incoming calls and messages, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8 utilises both vibration and ringing with the added bonus of being able to assign MP3 files as ring tones.  Handsfree communication is easily carried out thanks to a built in speakerphone system and a 3.5 millimetre audio jack.

There is a built in phonebook which can store a practically unlimited number of entries and fields and this comes with the functional photocall feature.  On board storage is 128 MB along with 168 MB RAM, however there is also an integrated microSD card slot which comes with a pre-installed 2 GB memory card, however this can be replaced with a card of up to 16 GB, meaning users have plenty of scope for storing music tracks, videos and photos etc.

Class 10 GPRS & EDGE are utilised by keeping the handset connected to the appropriate cellular networks in all but the most isolated regions. Internet access is initially provided via 3G coverage thanks to an HSDPA connection.  Users are able to attain a faster Internet connection thanks to full Wi-Fi compatibility whenever they have access to local Wireless Networks.  Bluetooth and micro USB connections finish off the package of connectivity features, both of which allow the handset to be connected to other compatible hardware devices whereby a number of different tasks can be carried out.

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8 boasts a handy 3.15 mega pixel digital camera which operates at 2048x 1536 pixels, resulting in good quality still images.  This comes with geo-tagging which functions thanks to GPS and allows users to keep track of where they took their photos or shot there videos.  Video footage is captured in VGA quality at a rate of 30 frames per second.

The Android operating system, in this case version 1.6 is utilised (however this can be upgraded to later versions), and works in conjunction with a 600 MHz processor to provide an impressive user experience.  There are a number of handy included features for entertainment purposes such as a versatile music and video player which can support several different file formats along with a radio and a selection of pre-installed games.

The added bonus of the availability of a number of different colour options means the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8 will appeal to style conscious users, as well as those who are looking for an affordable Smartphone with great everyday functionality.
