What is your old worthless cell phone worth? To you, nothing. Maybe you haven’t noticed that they have been giving away cell phones for any reason at all for several years now. If you want a new cell phone, just wait until your contract runs out with your current provider, and then ask for a new FREE cell phone with the features you want.
If your current provider doesn’t want to give you a new cell phone for free, call the competition. Ask them for a free cell phone, and be specific about what features you want on your new free cell phone. Don’t be shy. The one last stumbling block to making this a buyer’s market fell away years ago. You can keep your phone number, no matter what service you switch to. As long as you don’t have a contract with a provider, you can take your phone number with you as you walk on over to the provider who will sweeten the deal with a new phone for free.
The big question is, however, what do you do with that old phone you have, that used to be your lifeline to the world. You might want to sell it, but when you try, if you bother, you will find out that a cell phone one or more years old is not worth anything in the open market. Think about it; you are getting a brand new phone just for signing up with a cell phone company, isn’t everyone else getting the same deal? Well, most everyone is. That is to say that anyone who can pass the credit check to open an account with a cell phone carrier can get a free phone with the agreement. You really can’t throw your old cell phone out; they are really bad for the landfills.
The newer, (last two or more years), cell phones have two features that are very important to a specific group of people who can’t get new cell phone service. Perhaps the most important feature on new cell phones is that the cell phone service providers are required to route emergency calls even if the calling cell has no service. That point may be lost on you, but what it means to you is that if you for some reason have your service suspended, you can still make emergency (911) calls from that cell phone.
This feature can save lives. The poor and often the women of abusive relationships have not been able to get cell phone service. In today’s world, that could be a killer. A woman being stalked, or a poor person of either gender being threatened can use your [no longer serviceable] cell phone to call for help, after you donate your old and [not quite] worthless cell phone to a charity. Do it today, hbefore you forget.
