Give Your Kids An Intellectual Head Start With Educational Toys

Toys for children are not limited to boring, cheap plastic dolls, and cars. You can find some wonderful educational toys for a child that will pique their curiosity and challenge their imagination. In order for a toy to be interesting, it must combine learning opportunities with an appearance and “fun factors” that make it an irresistible magnet for a child.

Playtime for children should be a time where they are able to express themselves and expand their knowledge and abilities. Many top products that are designed with an educational point of view are geared to help children develop and refine large and small motor skills and their own innate talents. Music is one of the chief educational entertainment products on the market that can be tailored to suit a person of any age.

There are CDs that mothers can play for their babies before they are even born, while others are created for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school age children. Parents will find lots of fun instruments to encourage a love of rhythm and music such as bells, gourd rattles, tambourines, triangles, xylophones, guitars, and drums. Playing and exploring music and musical instruments will help children gain an understanding of rhythms and melodies and listening to music has been linked to better school performance, and higher IQs.

Think about some of the things that you, yourself, once found immensely satisfying during your own childhood. Perhaps it was a variety of building blocks that you could use to construct roads, towers, and even entire communities. The excitement that this kind of creative activity produced probably still lingers in your memory today.

One of the reasons that blocks are a childhood favorite is because there are no real rules that must be followed. This is also a primary reason that these items are always included in any Top 10 list for educational toy products. Smaller children can play with foam blocks for extra safe fun.

Parents of children 3 and older might want to look for a set of blocks made from a sturdier material, such as wood. These will last much longer and they are able to absorb the rough and tumble handling that most small children dish out. Your child will have hours of fun constructing and then demolishing tall, elaborate structures (of their own design) from these blocks . There are even construction sets that contain a variety of building materials for kids, including planks, blocks, slides, and connectors.

Rhyming and memory games are also top choices in the educational toy marketplace. These can be purchased as sets of cards, CD programs, and board games. Memorization skills are easily increased when you and your children use these fun toys to add new dimensions to any afternoon or weekend family playtime.

There are even washable plastic mats imprinted with key educational facts and ideas that can be used as the basis for some stimulating family table conversation. These colorful mats contain educational resources that will inspire and excite your children. Make meals fun and interesting with these child friendly products. This is a great way to teach younger children about the times tables, countries and capital cities and fun facts about science.

All children have an instinctive desire to learn more about the world around them and parents can encourage this natural curiosity by selecting child friendly microscopes, large world globes, topographical floor maps, or even magic sets. Each of these educational toys is designed to teach children something new about science, and will open their minds to the way they view the world.
