Chocolate News
Oakdale, CA
Fri., Feb. 1 was the last day for employees and chocolate at the Hershey plant in Oakdale, CA which opened in 1965. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups were the last product to be produced.

Employees got their severance packages and are ending 20-50 years of service to Hershey’s. 85 employees will continue for another 2 weeks, cleaning and removing equipment.
Hershey closed the Oakdale plant, along with five others in the United States and Canada, as part of a restructuring plan to shift some chocolate production to a new facility in Monterrey, Mexico. The candy maker cut about 3,300 jobs from its North American work force.

Love: Chocolate Style
A study in the "American Journal of Clinical Nutrition," indicated that adding half an ounce of dark chocolate or four and one-half tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder to an average American diet increases antioxidant about 4 percent. Chocolate can also temper the harmful effects of the bad LDL cholesterol, according to the report.
Chocolate contains some of the health-promoting phytochemicals that vegetables and fruit do, but that doesn’t mean its part of this "five-a-day" food group. Small amounts of chocolate may offer enough phytochemicals to make a difference, but they certainly won’t satisfy hunger very well.
Bottom line: Enjoy chocolate in small portions without guilt. Two or three small dark chocolate candies, eaten slowly and savored, will add a smaller calorie and fat load than a small plate of cookies or a bag of chips.

Wouldn’t you just love it if your body decided to burn fat and calories on its own?

It can if you:
1. Exercise in short, intense bursts (interval training) for effective fat burning after exercise.
2. Increase the amount of resistance/strength/weight training you do, to build more lean muscle. Muscle is ‘metabolically active’ and burns more calories than other body tissue even when you’re not moving.
And of course, for best results:
3. Reduce the amount of food you are eating.
