Unique Foods Covered in Chocolate
Almost anything can be covered in chocolate, thus, people around the world are constantly discovering more interesting and tasty combinations of food and chocolate. Although many treats such as biscuits or cakes usually have chocolate in them, there are other combinations that people love to eat.
Dark Chocolate Covered Pretzels
The first and most popular of the many chocolate covered foods popular in the United States is dark chocolate pretzels. Dark chocolate pretzels can be found in virtually every American convenience store and supermarket, but some people also like to make dark chocolate covered pretzels at home and anyone can find recipes online or in desert cookbooks. The origin of dark chocolate pretzels is yet unclear, although like many other American junk foods they may have originated at county fairs and carnivals. There is a long standing tradition of weird and unusual foods being sold at American fairgrounds, but these pretzels are by far the tastiest ones.
Other Weird Chocolate Covered Foods
Dark chocolate covered pretzels aren't the only chocolate covered junk food around. Chocolate covered potato chips and chocolate covered waffles are sold as well and are quite a hit. A more recent entry in the odd chocolate covered food area is the chocolate covered fried Twinkie. Twinkies are snacks made from cake filled with cream and these treats have been a staple in American children's lunch boxes for a long time now.
The weirdest chocolate covered food sold has got to be chocolate covered tomatoes. This definitely makes dark chocolate pretzels sound delicious. Tomatoes are fried on wooden sticks then covered with melted chocolate. However, tomatoes aren't the only vegetable being covered with chocolate. Chocolate covered mushrooms, and onions have been tried by people as well.
Chocolate and Sushi
Choco-covered veggies can't even begin to compete with chocolate covered sushi. It's true. The raw fish we know as sushi is covered with chocolate and served as a meal. It could probably well with a side order of dark chocolate covered pretzels for true chocolate fans. But sushi isn't the only seafood covered with chocolate. Shrimp is also apparently dipped in chocolate in a twisted variation of the classic American dish where shrimps are dipped into tartar sauce or other sauces. Also on some menus one can find chocolate covered squid or calamari for a true chocolaty meal.
Even meat can be covered with chocolate! Some online websites present pictures of ribs covered in chocolate. But going even further, chocolate covered beef jerky exists. Beef jerky is a popular snack in the United States and so is chocolate. Apparently the two can be combined... who knew that chocolate goes well with food you usually eat before the dark chocolate pretzels desert?
