Use Chocolate Candy Molds for Sweet, Personalized Gifts

Chocolate candy molds come in thousands of shapes, called cavities. Typical, inexpensive, chocolate molds are formed from food-safe PETG plastic in sheets of about 8” x 10.5”. They can contain from one to about 50 cavities designed for filling with chocolate.

Most chocolatiers use candy melts to fill the cavities because they are easy to handle and melt evenly. But the relatively-low percentage of pure chocolate the melts contain prevent them from being labeled as “chocolate.” The melts, also known as “pastilles,” come in a variety of colors that simulate white, dark and milk chocolate. They also come in pinks, greens, browns and dozens of other colors. Purists among chocolatiers will often use Belgian chocolate or other forms of pure chocolate, but they will use a tempering machine to heat the chocolate and smooth it at the same time. Better temperers carefully control the heat to ensure that your chocolate does not burn.

Most PETG plastic chocolate molds start to distort at about 145 degrees. So, they should not me used for hot wax projects, such as candles. However, they can be used for molding plaster of Paris.

Cleaning chocolate molds is simple. Use warm water to loosen and wash off the excess chocolate. Never clean chocolate molds with soap because it can penetrate the plastic and alter the taste of your next chocolate batch.

Since chocolate molds come in so many different cavity shapes—in fact CybrTrayd www.cybrtrayd.com stocks more than 3,000 different chocolate candy mold designs—you are sure to find one that will allow you to make that special, but inexpensive gift for a friend or relative.
