Creation Vs. Evolution

Creation and evolution

The origin of mankind is something that has been debated and argued for ages, and unfortunately many are still questioning their origin. Perhaps you do not know yet and are wondering "Where did man come from?" There are many different explanations, but only two that are commonly talked about, Creation and Evolution. However, there is only one logical explanation. The first one we will talk about, is evolution in which evolutionists believe that everything which is living today evolved from one single living organism. The second view is Creation in which Christians believe God created the world and everything in it from nothing in six days and it was perfect.

Evolutionists believe that billions and billions of years ago there was a tiny dot in space which exploded into everything in the universe today. They believe all matter, time and space, were gathered together to be compacted into this tiny dot. It began spinning, and spun faster and faster until

everything contained in it exploded into a planet. This new "earth" was then very very hot, then it began to rain for millions of years. They believe that it was so hot, that it has been expanding and cooling ever since. The first problem with this theory however is the fact that if everything exploded from this dot where did the dot come from? The front of the April 2002 issue of discovery magazine explains this, it says, "The universe burst into something from absolutely nothing-zero, nada. And as it got bigger, it became filled with even more stuff that came from absolutely nowhere...". This is the only way evolutionists can answer the question about where the dot came from. They simply say everything came from Nothing.

This is quite different from how Christians believe the earth came into existence. Because we believe in the Bible, we have nothing to worry about. We don't need to use our own ideas, and "true" science will always agree with it. In Genesis 1:1 it says,"In the Beginning God created the heavens and the earth." On day one, He made the heavens and the earth. On day two, He separated the light from the darkness and called them "Day" and "Night". On day three, He divided the waters from the sky and called the dry land "Earth" and the waters "Seas". On day four, He made the grass, plants, and trees. On day five, He made every living creature under the sea, all the creatures that crawl underground and walk upon the land, and every winged foul that flies in the sky. And finally, on day six, He made man, and then rested on the seventh day.

Evolution was popularized by Charles Darwin. Charles was born in Shrewsbury, England on February 12, 1809. When he was only eight years old his mother died, so he was cared for by his sisters and one older brother. Then when he was sixteen years old, he was sent to the University of Edinburg to study medicine. He did not stay there long however, because he was repelled by thought of performing surgery without the use of anesthetics. While he was in Scotland, he was introduced to two friends who helped fuel his interest in science. The first person he met was Robert Grant. Robert Grant was a zoologist who introduced Darwin to the study of marine animals. Robert Jameson, another friend of his, was a geologist who fed his growing interest in the history of the earth. And although at first he believed the Bible on the origin of the universe, and quoted it as the authority on morality, he did not entirely trust the history of the Old Testament. Therefore, He began to lose his faith in God, and in 1851, when his daughter Annie became ill and died, He lost all faith in God. From 1831 to 1836 he sailed aboard the H.M.S. Beagle on a British science expedition around the world. While on the Galapagos islands in the Pacific Ocean, he began to notice variations in the plants and animals of the same general type of those in South America. He began to collect specimen of these plants and animals. After returning to London, Darwin began to conduct thorough research of his notes and specimens. After thoroughly studying these specimens, he proposed several theories. His first theory was that evolution did occur. However, what he was really seeing was only slight variations, not change between kinds. Next, he concluded that evolutionary change was very slow and required thousands to millions of years. Again, this is not true either. He only theorized that it took millions of years because no one has ever seen it happen. He also thought that the primary mechanism for evolution was a process called natural selection. He was only partly wrong on this theory, because there is such a thing as natural selection. However it is not on such a grand scale as Charles Darwin thought. Lastly, he supposed that the millions of species alive today came from a single original life form through a process called "speciation," and in 1859, he put these theories in a book called,

"On the origin of species by means of natural selection."

Creation, on the other hand, was not thought up by a man who is finite, but by a God who is

infinite. He is the only one that has always been and always will be. He is the only one that could possibly create time, space, and matter. And unlike evolutionary theories, which have to be updated all the time, God and His word never change. His word never has to be "updated" because it always agrees with true science, it is never wrong. Evolutionists argue that Creation is just a "religion". However, the meaning of religion is "a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe." This would definitely apply to evolution also, because believing that everything that is alive today came from a series of accidents, would definitely be a set of beliefs not facts. They call them facts because they cannot be disproved, but the most certainly cannot be proven either.

Unless you have gone to a public school system, chances are you don't know a whole lot about evolution. Most likely though, all people have heard at one time or another, that man has evolved from apes. Evolutionists think that four billion years ago after the earth exploded from nothing it started raining all over this hot planet to cool it down. Huge oceans formed from this rain, and a bunch of minerals began to mix in these oceans. Out of these complex chemicals came the very first living organism. From there, a series of mutations, caused them to change in order to survive to reproduce. If they could not survive they merely died out. Through this process of "natural selection," the first living organism evolved into all the animals and plants we see today.

Before we go any further we must define the word "evolve." There are six different meanings of this word, and too many times people begin discussing "Creation" and Evolution" and they are not thinking of the same definition. The first definition of evolution is "Cosmic Evolution." This definition says that the origin of time space and matter all came from the "big bang." The second definition is "Chemical Evolution." "Chemical Evolution" is the idea that all life evolved chemically from hydrogen. The third definition is "Stellar and Planetary Evolution," the origin of stars and planets. The fourth definition is "Organic evolution." The fifth definition is "Macro Evolution." This is the idea that everything evolved from nothing, and kinds evolved from simpler kinds. The last definition, "Micro Evolution," is the only type of evolution that has ever been witnessed by man to occur. None of the others have ever been witnessed so they are merely ideas. However, most scientist when talking about "Evolution," are talking about "Macro Evolution." In this essay whenever you read the word "evolution," we are referring to "Macro evolution."

There are a few problems with the theory of "Macro Evolution" however. First, no one has ever seen something change or "evolve." For example, nothing has ever been witnessed by man to change from one kind of animal or plant to completely different one. Second, there are no fossils to prove anything has changed into another kind. Evolutionist say they have fossils, but they are really fake or else they are so deteriorated they could be anything. Lastly, is the false idea that that anything evolves by "accidents," or mutations. This does not make sense at all. If anything would evolve by mutations then it is getting worse not better. In fact scientist have never seen anything change to create more information to pass on in it's DNA no matter how much time it has.

Another commonly asked question, is one that most likely all creationist and evolutionist disagree on, is "how old is this earth?" This question is not only debated between creationist and evolutionist, but even creationists themselves. Evolutionists believe the earth is "billions" of years old," while creationists and anyone else who reads and believes the Bible, will tell you the earth is only around 6000 years old. Evolutionists say it is "billions" of years old, because that is how much time is necessary for evolution to occur. If the earth is only 6000 years old it makes them look ridiculous because there is no way everything could have evolved from nothing in that short of time. But if we carefully read the Bible and take it literally it is very easy to understand that the earth and everything that is in it was created in six literal days as we see in Genesis 1. God also said in Romans 5:12"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned," This means that there was no death on the earth until Adam sinned. And in order for there to have been "millions" of years before Adam sinned there would have had to been sin, death, and bloodshed, and we know that is not true because at the end of the creation God said it was good and He could not have said that it was good if there was sin, suffering, death, and bloodshed.

Evolutionists would really have nothing to make their theory look even remotely possible if it wasn't for their "millions and millions of years." They say, "how else do you explain the Grand Canyon?" They think it happened over millions and millions of years. Just like everything else. Again, this is because they have no other way to explain it. They say the Colorado river that is running through it gradually eroded it all out. They did get one part right, water did erode it, but only the waters of the Flood. Evolutionists say it took a little water a long time, but using the Bible we can see that it makes much more sense that a lot of water and a little time washed it all out as the waters were receding.

If the earth is only 6000 years old, then why are there so many fossils? Evolutionists believe that bones take millions of years to fossilize. They think that fish, for example, die, sink to the bottom of the ocean, and then get buried by mud and sand. After millions of years, these fish get fossilized because of the weight of the mud. They also think that all the layers you see at the Grand Canyon and other places are evidence of different times or ages. But we know that all this is not true. Well then. how did all those layers of fossils get there? They got there because of the gigantic flood which killed all the animals except for the ones on the ark. The weight of the flood waters buried them in rock layers all over the earth. This is also how we got all the fossil fuels which we use every day, However, it did not take millions of years to make, it only took one devastating, global Flood.

So what was the purpose of the flood? About 4000 years ago the people of the earth turned very wicked. God was sorry He made them and wanted to wipe the whole population of the face of the earth. Except for one man who found favor in His sight. So God who is all knowing had a plan for Noah and his family and all the animals. The Lord told this man Noah to build a boat, But this was no ordinary fishing boat, and most certainly no easy task. The boat or ark was to be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet tall. It was to have three floors and be coated with pitch inside and out. About 100 years later, after the Ark was built, he was to take two of every animal and seven of every clean animal into the ark so they would be safe. So was the ark big enough to hold all the animals? Evolutionists say that there would have been too many animals and they would never have all fit in the ark no matter what size it was. We don't know exactly how many different kinds of animals there were in the time of Noah, but Creation Scientist have estimated that there were approximately 21,000 "kinds" of animals. Noah did not have to take all the different variations of each animal, He only had to take one "kind". In other words, he did not have to take a
Great Dane, a Poodle, and a Chihuahua, he only had to take one kind of dog. So if there were only 21,000 "kinds of animals, plus 7,800 kinds of clean animals, there would have been around 50,000 animals on the ark. The measurements we have add up to about 1,518,750 sq feet or the capacity of 560 rail road cars So if the ark would have had the capacity of 560 rail road cars, and you could fit an average of 240 sheep in each rail road car then the animals would only use up 208 rail road cars, which would have only been 36% of the capacity of the ark. The rest was used for storing plants, grain and other things to use as food. Some critics say it was a poor design and it would not have moved through the water good at all. They do not realize that the ark had no destination, and that it was designed perfectly for what it needed to do. Too many times we think we know more than the Bible, but if we build our ideas from the Bible instead of taking our ideas to the Bible we see how everything worked together for God's perfect plan.

People often ask the question, "where did the races come from then?" This is a very important and interesting question. First of all there is no such thing as "races." The reason is simple there are no races because we all came from the same people, Adam and Eve, therefore we are all one race. C. Loring Brace, a biological anthropologist, said "Race is a social construct derived mainly from perceptions conditioned by events of recorded history, and it has no basic biological reality."But some people say, "if we all came from Adam and Eve wouldn't we all look the same?" Not necessarily, you see when God made Adam and Eve, He made them perfect. They had no imperfections in their genes. After they sinned, things began to deteriorate. Their kids probably may have had some mistakes in their genes, but they were very insignificant because things were only beginning to deteriorate. These nearly perfect genes had the capability of having light skin, dark skin, or any variation of the two. Adam and Eve could have had light skinned children and dark skinned children, or anywhere in between. The chances of having dark skinned children or light skinned children was equal. Even at the time of the flood Noah and his wife probably had children of different colors. That explains the color, but what about other characteristics? At the tower of Babel God mixed the languages of the people. The people then all went different directions, and they most likely went with people that could speak their own language so they could understand each other. The mistakes in their genes became more distinguished over time because they were repeated. These mistakes however are still only minor, and only affect things like, eye shape, skin color, etc. As a matter of fact, the differences between any two people biologically is only .2% and the average difference between the so called "races" is only .012%. This means the differences between any two people is very small, but the differences between the so called "races" is much smaller. The science page on the ABC News web site on September 10, 1998 said, "What the facts show is that there are differences among us but they stem from culture not race." Too many times people think they are better then people of different colors or cultures and they separate themselves from them and don't care about hurting people's feelings. The fact of the matter is that there is very little difference between us and them. That's why we need to be very careful so that we do not judge people based only on their looks.

So are Dinosaurs Evolutionary myths too? Not according to the Bible. In Job 40: 15-18 it says " Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox. Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly. He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together. His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron. "Notice it says "He moveth his tail like a ceder." Most people say behemoth was probably a elephant or a hippopotamus. It is true that these are both big strong animals, but most people fail to realize that neither of these animals have a tail like a ceder. Most people have also been told that dinosaurs were meat eaters but it also says "He eateth grass like an ox," this would indicate he was a vegetarian. Besides this proof from the Bible That dinosaurs did exist, there are lots of fossils and drawings in caves and on the side of the Grand Canyon of dinosaurs, that scholars think were drawn by Indians. So why would Indians draw pictures of dinosaurs? The only logical reason was because they saw them.

So what caused the Dinosaurs to go extinct? Some evolutionists believe that a Gigantic metorite struck the earth and killed them all. Some people think they began to eat each other, because there was not enough food for them after the flood. Another possibility is the fact that the atmosphere was no longer suitable for them and they just couldn't survive in this new environment. It is also possible that man may have hunted them. Why would they hunt these huge animals? Well, there are a couple of reasons they might have killed them. They might have wanted them for food, since you would probably only have to kill one a year, or maybe they simply killed them for sport, or because they wanted to be a hero by saving their families and their villages. These stories may or may not be true, however as unusual as it may seem, some Scientist think there may be a few of them still alive today. Now you probably think there is no way dinosaurs could still be living today , but there are a lot of people that do think so. In the January 1993 issue of National Geographic Magazine, it says that "no man has ever seen a live dinosaur." How could one man know if anyone has seen dinosaurs or not? Unless you have been around as long as the universe you cannot know this for sure. The Congo in Africa is the world's largest swamp. It consists of roughly 7.5 million acres of the kind of habitat that a dinosaur would need to survive. In fact, all of the natives there claim to see very large animals in this swamp regularly. Because of this, many people have tried to scout the land and see for themselves. This is not an easy job though, because the conditions there are very unfavorable, and there are no modern technologies there to record any sighting, or other evidence, But this does not mean they don't exist.

By now you are probably wondering, "how do you know for sure that there is a God?" There are several reasons to believe there is a God, but many people today are brainwashed into thinking everything created itself and there is no need for a God. The first evidence we have, is that there is a creation. If you see a beautiful painting, you obviously assume there was a painter. If you see a beautiful piece of furniture, you obviously assume someone made it. It is the very same with everything. If you see a brand new car, you don't assume all the pieces gradually rolled to each other and fell into place, and then it sat out in the rain and the rain gave it it's paint. It's obvious that it would begin to deteriorate not get better. Why on earth would Someone want to think that everything you see on this planet came together by chance? Besides all that, information cannot create information. Werner Gitt said in his book," In the Beginning was Information" that "There is no known natural law through which matter can give rise to information, neither is any physical process or material phenomenon known that can do this." There is no way a bunch of metal would start thinking and say, "let's build a car," there would have to be someone to know how, or have the information to make the car. Someone with more information then the metal. Likewise, everything that is in the world had to have come from someone with more information then the universe. That all knowing source of information would be God, who has infinite knowledge. Like Richard Dawkins, a well known atheist said, "We have seen that living things are too improbable and too beautifully designed to have come into existence by chance."

The next question is, "why would anyone want to argue that there is a God?"

God Himself has several explanations of this in His word. In 2 Peter 3:5 it says " For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:" In Jeremiah 17:9 it also says that "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?"It is not only man getting himself confused, But the Devil is also trying to confuse people. In 2 Cor 4:4 it says "In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them" The reason the god of this world has blinded their eyes is because if there is a God They are subject to him, and they must obey His laws. If they had only come from slime than they would only be subject only to themselves, they would have no laws to distinguish right from wrong, and they would only do what they wanted to.

People ask, "if there is a God why would he allow so much pain and suffering?" Well, in the Beginning He created the world with no pain, death, and suffering, But because of Adams sin, this earth has been cursed, and we have all inherited a sin nature and we experience these things. Those who want to challenge the Bible say things like, "what if Adam stepped on an ant?"or "what if he hit his head on a rock?" The only reason we ask things like this is because we cannot comprehend a perfect world. We look at a fallen earth with our fallen minds and can't figure stuff like this out. Just because we cannot imagine how it was, does not mean it is not true. But those who are Christians, do have the assurance that one day there will be a new Heaven and a new earth, and all pain and suffering will have ended.

Now that we can begin to see how mixed up the people are in this world, what can we do to show them the truth about the origin of the earth? In Matt 28:19-20 it says "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen." Notice it says to "teach" them. In today's world, people have been taught differently then they used to be. Years ago people were taught that God made the world, and everything was perfect, but man sinned. Because man sinned we now need a Savior. Today, whole generations have been taught differently. Now, kids in schools everywhere are being taught that God doesn't exist They have been taught that "billions" of years ago, we all came from a rock. Therefore, they don't need a savior, because if they came from a rock, and there is no God, then how do we know what sin is? Man is only accountable to himself, and he decides what is right and wrong. This is the reason for all the violence we see in our world today. It's possible that many people in our own city have never even heard the real story of Creation. This is why we should be teaching them the real truth. Many times people who are witnessing, go up to someone and say,"you have sinned and you need to repent" but the person they are talking to may have no idea what you mean by "sin" unless you start from the beginning, tell how the earth really began, and how Adam and Eve sinned. Some preachers and teachers will say, "all you need to do is tell people that they have sinned and Jesus died for them. It is not necessary to tell them all this stuff about Genesis." This is not true, because we know that God has a purpose for everything and without Genesis there would be no need for a Savior.

And like it was said earlier, Charles Darwin did believe the Bible, but began to doubt the history of the Old Testament. He then had no basis for anything else and eventually lost trust in the whole Bible. The only way we can begin to understand the history of the world is if we read the Bible Genesis to Revelation, take it word for word, and leave our ideas out of it. Only then will we get a glimpse of how awesome our God is.
