Have you ever earnestly prayed to God for something to happen or for someone and for some strange reason you felt that God was not hearing your prayer? It can be very discouraging especially if you want the things to happen soon. Heaven seems to be closed and you feel like you are knocking on the bank doors after they have knocked off but you still need the cash and that ATM machine is out of order.
These are all feelings and experiences that every Christian goes through at some point or another. Usually, most will give up when things reach this stage. However, there is ample evidence in the Bible that God does hear your prayers.
Firstly, God hears your prayer if you are rightly related to him. If you have personal relationship with him, then your prayers are pleasing in his sight. This is just the first requirement.
Secondly, even though you may have a personal relationship with him, you still need to deal with any sin that you may have (Psalm 66:18). Sin hinders your fellowship with him and if you come to him with it and expect him to listen to you, then you are wasting your time. It’s like having your child want to hug you right after their soccer game, muddy boots and all and you are leaving for dinner with your wife.
If you meet these conditions in prayer, then you can have the confidence that the prayers you pray are being heard by God. You need to banish all doubt that he is not hearing you. God takes pleasure to hear the prayers of Christians who are walking with him.
It is also wise to pray according to what God wills. You do this by praying according to what has been revealed in the Bible. In this way you know that you are praying right and that he is hearing you. You cannot pray that God will destroy church x with confusion because you want your church to be ahead and expect God to hear that. You cannot pray that your spouse will die so you can have that other person you have always wanted. You need to pray in accordance to God’s revealed will in the Bible. In that way, you can have all the confidence that he hears your prayer and you need not have any doubts.
