Fear And What The Scriptures Say About It
The topic of fear is a curious subject for everyone, even for non-Christians.
All of us experiences fear. As a child, you more or less feared seeing the doctor and receiving a shot. In high school, you underwent fear of rejection, which most if not all of us have to go through during our adolescent years, like a rite of passage. You are scared of going to a job interview. You are scared of going into packed trains because you do not know when something might go wrong—a mechanical failure, the likes.
On simpler terms, the feeling of fear is universal. It is the same as the feeling of falling in love. Yet what does the Holy Scriptures truly say about fear? What does the determination Bible verses teach us about fear? There is only one way to find out.
First let us learn about fear from the perspective of the determination Bible verses:
"He that overcomes shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." Rev 21:7-8
"The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?" Psa 118:6
The Holy Scriptures mentions "fear not" more than 70 times from Genesis to Revelation. In the first quote above, the Creator's had made it clear enough that those who are fearful will not enter His Kingdom in Heaven. Fear exists. The Holy Scriptures does not even try to deny it. But the Holy Scriptures also want us human beings – The Creator's own creation – to be able to stand up and rise above it. If you can cast aside the feeling of fear, then the Creator will accept you as His son, as mentioned in the Holy Scriptures.
Remember that the Savior, Jesus Christ, was felt fear during the last remaining hours of his life. He had known he would have to die to save mankind, and suffer not as the Son of God. But he overcame his fear and accomplished his purpose, and three days later he rose from again to take his place in the Kingdom of the Creator.
Our Savior overcame fear because he believed in the Creator's love for all his creations.
You should not live in fear. To live in fear is to rob yourself the opportunity to live the life the Creator has given you. Fear is the work of Satan. As the Holy Scriptures said, "fear not!"
