Happy Thanksgiving
For those of us in the U.S. we are celebrating Thanksgiving Day this Thursday, November 25, 2010. Thanksgiving for us is a day of family, friends, food and football (the kind with helmets and shoulder pads). We travel and we often eat more than we should, but it is a time of love, celebration and reflection. As Christians we should be constantly thankful. We have received the ultimate gift - Jesus Christ. Our debt to the Lord is so gigantic and we are incapable of repaying it. Our response to God's gift must be lives of gratitude and thankfulness.
Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 TMB)
As you gather for Thanksgiving please actually be thankful and express your gratitude to our Lord and to those in your life (even if you are still sitting at the kids' table again this year). Be a peacemaker. Be a living epistle. Share the love of Christ and demonstrate the love of Christ. Be thankful for what you have and for what you do not have. Be thankful for what has happened and for what has not happened. Be thankful for those in your life and for those who are not in your life. Thanksgiving is about celebrating the life that God has given to you.
Here are some quotes concerning thankfulness and Thanksgiving to edify you.
A thankful heart is not only the greatest virtue, but the parent of all other virtues. (Marcus Tullius Cicero)
Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough. (Oprah Winfrey)
As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them. (John F. Kennedy)
To the generous mind the heaviest debt is that of gratitude, when it is not in our power to repay it. (Benjamin Franklin)
Gratitude is the inward feeling of kindness received. Thankfulness is the natural impulse to express that feeling. Thanksgiving is the following of that impulse. (Henry Van Dyke)
The Pilgrims made seven times more graves than huts. No Americans have been more impoverished than these who, nevertheless, set aside a day of thanksgiving. (H.U. Westermayer)
Let us remember that, as much has been given us, much will be expected from us, and that true homage comes from the heart as well as from the lips, and shows itself in deeds. (Theodore Roosevelt)
On Thanksgiving Day we acknowledge our dependence. (William Jennings Bryan)
It must be an odd feeling to be thankful to nobody in particular. Christians in public institutions often see this odd thing happening on Thanksgiving Day. Everyone in the institution seems to be thankful 'in general.' It's very strange. It's a little like being married in general. (Cornelius Plantinga, Jr.)
I pray that this Thanksgiving Day will be a special time for you and your family. May God be glorified in and through you and may He use you to touch, reach and bless those around you.

For Religious Reading, Prayer, And Living A Spiritual Life Before I enter into a long remark and analysis on the worth of living the spiritual life, and of keeping a copy of this pocket size book The Rule of St. Benedict, I want to write a short introduction on what is the basis of my theme for the use of the book: prayer. Then to discuss the work as I see it as a contribution to ones own life of living in the world and in the light of God’s presence. --Peter Menkin, Obl Cam OSB (2000)
God no longer judges us for He judged us in Jesus Christ nearly 2,000 years ago and we were judged not guilty for Jesus paid with His life's blood the price for us. We have a life of continuous sonship, continuous forgiveness as we continue to confess our mistakes and inability to live sinlessly. This is the law of love. God holds no bitterness, no grudges, they are removed as far as the east is from the west.

For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever will believe will have everlasting life and not perish. God is there for nonbelievers also. He wants all of His children back. Seek and you shall find, ask and you shall receive, knock and the door will be opened
Historic Black College choirs across the country traditionally visit local community churches. For many churches it's reminiscent of a homecoming. Alum, prospective students and the community at large celebrate the choir, enjoy and appreciate the sacred music, pay tribute to loved ones that have helped financially support and embraced the school's mission which instills pride in the hope and dream of surviving and making it in a harsh world. Their presence is a testament of God's goodness.

It is very easy to pass by Christmas without truly celebrating Christ. For most it will not be intentional, it will just be the rush of calendared events, tasks and phone calls that need to be made. We can find ourselves doing all of the things we do because it is Christmas without spending anytime with the Lord.
The body of Christ is a community and we not only depend upon one another but we also represent one another. Most importantly, as believers, each of us represents the Lord Jesus Christ. It is this privilege and obligation that each of us must keep close in our hearts. The world cannot see Jesus – they can only see us.
Queen Esther was used by God to protect His people Israel and to preserve the lineage of the Messiah. She rose from obscurity and insignificance to a position of influence and prominence. It was in her position of influence that she risked everything to do the right thing. I pray that each of us will have the courage and faith of Queen Esther.
If you are frustrated with Wall Street and failed government policies I understand. However, I wrote this message to remind you that as a follower of Christ you belong to a different Kingdom and in this Kingdom we work to glorify Jesus Christ and not ourselves.
