How Does the Bible Describe a Family?

Posted: Sep 16, 2011 |Comments: 0 |

A family, even some decades ago, was what could be called close-knit. It is immensely saddening to see families becoming increasingly under siege for many reasons, one of them being loveless relationships between husbands and wives, between parents and their children and even neighbors and strangers who, in the past days, could easily become almost like members of a family in a loose sort of way, in quite natural ways. The very foundation of families as designed by God is under threat. Divorces happen almost as quickly as marriages. The fragility of marriages can be attributed to a single reason: lack of faith in God and ignorance of his advice and decrees.

Faith can in deed move Mountains. Jesus praises the woman whose daughter he saved for her faith. He tells her that it was her faith that saved her daughter. (Matthew 15:28). A family, so ordained by God stands much more, then, to have and show its faith to God. In Genesis 1; 26-27, we can see a man and woman are brought together in marriage and what God has done, man can not undo. Do you see the implications of this in today's world? "Stay true to your spouse" is what it says; till the day you die. It is well nigh impossible for many people to follow this but, Bible does not qualify this except, for some exceptional circumstances.

Many people are surprised that the Bible should be discussing natural body functions but it is categorical in saying that mutual enthusiasm and a yearning on the part of both the partners is to be aspired for. It is almost explicit in saying a married man or woman does not have property ownership over their respective bodies. It is rather the other partner who does. How simple! You cannot mishandle or misuse somebody else's property! So, things like unfaithfulness and adultery are a complete anathema to God and the Bible. (Corinthian 1:3-4).

Parenting is a major topic in the Bible. This is not to grudge the professionals specializing in the art of parenting and the accompanying trials and travails but the Bible is the best advisor in matters concerning rearing children in a family. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 succinctly sums up the duties of a parent. A good parent always puts God before everything else in teaching his child. Training and rebuking when not obeying are all approved in God's eyes while bringing up children. Any child that goes through Proverb 1:8-19 would know that his father's advice is not to be taken lightly. A family that thus lives with God in their midst cannot go wrong in anything they attempt to do.

"What does the Bible have to say about reincarnation?" Nothing, if we expect to find the word reincarnation. A lot, if we read the Bible through the lens of belief in reincarnation.

Any one who has ever been through any "drama" realizes that life's no joke. We start off with one intention and end up "many" miles away. Any one who has ever faced court trials, imprisonment, or bouts with law enforcement can agree. Most of us have been betrayed by love, friends, family and others. So really, what does any book about Jesus have to offer you or me? If you don't like a lot of talk (smoke and mirrors) then you will greatly appreciate this manual and its author (me).

We are losing the battle with our self-possessed, 'do-as-you-please' culture. Under the influence of a more and more secular, self-centered, 'politically-correct' world view, the disappearance of the traditional family, and the lack of in-depth teaching by parents and schools of the 'why's' and 'what's' of our Christian faith, we are...

Historic Black College choirs across the country traditionally visit local community churches. For many churches it's reminiscent of a homecoming. Alum, prospective students and the community at large celebrate the choir, enjoy and appreciate the sacred music, pay tribute to loved ones that have helped financially support and embraced the school's mission which instills pride in the hope and dream of surviving and making it in a harsh world. Their presence is a testament of God's goodness.

Samsung took the word ‘Galaxy' very seriously while naming its new mobile range whose end seems to be very far. It started with a tab and the latest ‘galaxy S' has bombed the markets. With so many models under the huge tag of ‘galaxy', it is obvious to find a specifically designed Samsung galaxy case to envelope each one.
